A tooth can get fractured. Something can get stuck between two teeth. Something can get stuck inside the mouth (this happened to one of my dogs, a piece of a stick got lodged from one side to the other, above the tongue. She drooled profusely. I couldnt see what was wrong, but when I stuck my hand in her mouth I of course found the twig and could…[Read more]

This happened literally over night. I noticed it yesterday and I read pretty scary things on the internet. I’m taking her to the vet on Monday. She’s totally fine and relaxed and doesn’t have changes in behavior. I don’t know what might be da cause for this, but i don’t think it’s dental problem because she had her teeth checked last time at the…[Read more]

One of my rabbits is a lionhead. He will let you give him a few pats, but that’s it. We don’t dare pick him up and try to snuggle with him. Almost no rabbits like to be held, actually. As prey animals, it frightens them. They usually will struggle to get out of your grasp and they can injure themselves. Many rabbits do like to sit besid…[Read more]

She has started to make noises when ever I go near her so I think its a good indication that she is carrying some babies. I’m kinda excited about it and wondering what colors she’ll have.

Nice cute bunny. I quite like the giant breeds but they are rare in this neck of the woods. Is that a minilop you have too? I have a mini lop who I rescued. Mine is an albino.

For cages and birds its much better and cheaper to buy/salvage some timber and buy some wire and build your own bird cages or aviary. You can do the same with your bunnies, build them a decent enclosure. You have plenty of materials state side to build stuff. You can use a combination of all kinds of things, puppy pen panels being popular among…[Read more]

He let me see it closer when he was cleaning today. However, I still haven’t found any abnormalities even under fur. I will take him to a vet on Monday, hopefully he is going to get better soon!

I’ve seen some creative bunny homes on here. I need to re-build the bunny summer house outside because there has been mice coming up from the outside pipes and building nests under the living room door step and help themselves to the rabbit food. All this needs to be addressed so the existing summer bunny home needs to come down and every thing…[Read more]

Nothing wrong with washing your hands, etc. before interacting with them. But I don’t think you need to avoid them. 🙂

Oh wow! Not what I was expecting. LOL
I’m glad you were able to find a vet to take care of this. Botflies are nasty little things and the larvae are difficult to remove. You have to make sure you get the whole thing. With animals, you pretty much have to sedate them because they have to be completely still for this.

Thanks for the update! It was good you had it checked. We couldn’t really see that in the photo. If there is a bit of an infection, it’s good to get on top of it before it gets worse.

A bun can molt in patches during one molt, and molt like “all over” during the next. It’s still normal, but I agree it can look weird. It’s always good to ask when you notice sth about your bun that seems weird!

thank you guys for your replies! She usually doesn’t go bald like this when she molts so that’s why I was concerned.

Oh, wow 😳 So glad you went to a good vet who knew what it was a could remove it! I looked up botflies and it seems that maintenance treatment with ivermectin or imidacloprid during fly-season could lower the risk of warbles. Keeping your bun inside will of course be the safest thing, but as your vet says, there’s risk and benefit to take into…[Read more]

you guys won’t believe it! it turned out to be the larvae of a cuterebra fly! they had to sedate her and took it out the same day! We are so grateful to have gone to this vet! It was such a gross bug, when they took it out it was the size of half a loonie! It was huge. they said it happened when she was digging a burrow in the soil, and the fly…[Read more]

Thanks @LBJ10! That makes me feel better, I tend to be such a worry wart with the buns. Also knowing that I don’t have to be trying to avoid interacting with them makes things easier as watching buns is good medicine!

Thank you both so much! He seemed completely fine and was eating regularly, using the bathroom regularly & was active. I ended up emailing the vet a picture and they didn’t seem too concerned but still had me bring him in, just to be sure. The vet confirmed that it does look like he’s been licking the wound and there was a little bit of an…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Is it normal for bunnies to be eating normal droppings? in the forum DIET & CARE 3 years, 11 months ago
That’s normal. Bunnies can get picky sometimes. You can sometimes trick them by “fluffing” the hay and mixing it with a little bit of new stuff. I don’t think that would be related to the poop eating though.

I agree, it’s hard to tell from the photo. But yes, they can turn blue-ish post-neuter.
