        Hi all!

My rabbit, Benito, got neutered 6 days ago. He hasn’t let me pick him up to check his wound but I’ve been able to check it by bribing him to stand on his two feet with a treat. I noticed that it looks off but this is my first rabbit so I’m not sure what it’s even supposed to look like. The vet is closed right now so I can’t call or bring him in and I’m very worried. Please help! Does his wound look normal? Sorry if it’s blurry, he was moving.

        Thanks,

        Benito&Sam

I’m not sure what Im seeing exactly, but its normal for the scrotal sacs to become blue-ish post neuter. It’s due to hematoma. The sacs dont appear swollen though, which I think they would be if there were a leaking bloodvessel. The ball sacks can swell to the size of golf balls. Do you notice any foul smell? Does there appear to be seepage? How is your rabbit’s appetite and activity level now?

I think you should call your vet when they open and ask if you can email them this picture.

I agree, it’s hard to tell from the photo. But yes, they can turn blue-ish post-neuter.

Thank you both so much! He seemed completely fine and was eating regularly, using the bathroom regularly & was active. I ended up emailing the vet a picture and they didn’t seem too concerned but still had me bring him in, just to be sure. The vet confirmed that it does look like he’s been licking the wound and there was a little bit of an infection. They cleaned up his wound because there was a bit of pus on it and they sent him home with an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, probiotic and gabapentin, to calm him down a bit. I will be taking him to the vet again in 1 week to make sure it’s getting better.

Oh, great! Thank you for the update! 😃 Fingers crossed for his swift recovery, it’s of course great that he hasnt seemed much bothered by this.

Thanks for the update! It was good you had it checked. We couldn’t really see that in the photo. If there is a bit of an infection, it’s good to get on top of it before it gets worse.
