Hi all! I thought I’d start a new thread with the bonding template/ journal for my 2 since I haven’t done much with them yet and the actual bonding was getting buried in my other thread. I plan to start with putting them together for sessions starting Friday 10/29. The good news, Max has seemed to settle, and the poop wars are diminishing. They…[Read more]

hah!
I have experience, but I can’t say that I was successful with a fluffle. My boys just were not getting a long and it wasn’t worth the effort to keep pushing them. So I settled for 2 pairs.
Do you have someone to help you? Have you bonded rabbits before? Asking because I think the approach that may work best will differ depending on your…[Read more]

Thanks again for the response, ill be sure to look into those threads. In my own personal opinion, I think I am pretty good at getting animals used to each other, my Husky would even let my cat try and feed off it even though it wasn’t pregnant, I was so confused when I walked in on it. But i understand a rabbit is different so i will look into it…[Read more]

Ellie,
Without fail, your love, support, and true care for Breintje shines through. He received so much love from you, and that definitely impacted those around him too– only a truly loved and happy animal can be so cared for by vets and strangers alike. Reading this and remembering my journey with Breintje through your posts has truly been…[Read more]

Yes š I think that’s what is making it so difficult to accept it as I know it shouldn’t have ever happened, I know I did everything I could. It seemed I was unfortunate in that this vet was in it for the money and nothing more, and rather than refer they cost me a life. Thank you everyone for your kind words. Milo was truly my child, he was there…[Read more]

I donāt come on here very often! The morning before his appointment I picked him up to give him his medicine and his mouth was all better. Like it had never happened. 🙌 I called the vet and she said that as long as it had cleared up he didnāt need to be seen again. So happy I took him and the medicine helped and he got better so quickly! Heā…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Help! How do I stop the peeing! in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 9 months ago
Ahh yes, my rainbow bridge girl Bertha would pee anywhere she could access hay as well! I had to be very strategic about hay rack placement, because if she could reach it from sitting outside the box, she would just pee right there!

There are a few threads about dog introductions from over the years. The common thread is to go very slowly, and make sure your dogs know the command “leave it”.Ā Other things include not giving the dogs any soft toys, as these teach them to hunt rabbit-like things. It might be hard with adult dogs to fully socialize them around the bun, but it…[Read more]

I agree with the others. I have had a bunny who was very non touchy before and it helped for us to get down to her level, lay on the floor and let her eat treats off our belly, back, head, anywhere to get her used to us as a whole person and not just legs or arms.
There is also a ‘happy hour’ of cuddling for some buns, our boy is cuddly but only…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Rabbit vaccinations USA in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 9 months ago
An inactivated vaccin doesnt mean an animal must die before it can be used for vaccine production. The virus is killed off with heat or other methods. This is important, because the carcass of a tame rabbit, wild hare or wild rabbit that has died from the virus can still contain viable virus particles for several months, longer if it’s frozen. The…[Read more]

Sorry my response has been so slow I’ve been super busy with a new job and pre-bonding the two house buns!
Is answer to your question, I am just trying to bond my resident boy and my new girl. The other bunny I was refering to was my boys last partner that sadly passed away a year ago.

Ellie, I’m so deeply sorry to read this.
We all came to love Breintje through everything you wrote about him. He was truly special. It really is rare for rabbits to seek out their human when they’re unwell, Breintje must’ve had complete trust in you. As a fellow bun owner I find this lovely and comforting.
He had a long and wonderful life. I’m…[Read more]

Thanks for the response, that last picture in the link really looks like him. Almost exactly actually other then maybe being a little smaller. It really helps since i can look up specific care tips. That mark could be him escaping, could be a smaller animal, it looks like dried blood or dirt, haven’t really wanted to handle it too much to look as…[Read more]

Yep, the MedGene vaccine is not a live vaccine… but it does not require animals to produce either.

Yes, that would be sad. It would make sense though. As JG described below, there are other markings found in the Hotot breed. They are the by-products of trying to get that signature look (all white with black around the eyes). It isn’t unusual for breeders to sell these as pets. But an irresponsible breeder may feel the need to get rid of them if…[Read more]
