I love the sound of rain (as long as it’s not too loud) but not thunder

Not sure if this counts but Blossom is a bit of a climber, she doesn’t try to escape her X-pen but she likes to hop on top of her hidey house. She fell off it today but she was fine and hop back on top of it. Thumper likes to be held with his face turn towards mine and his butt facing my hip/stomach. Not upside down or in a trance position, the…[Read more]

I know that some other animals can start to hump objects when they have an irritation in their ano-genital area. But I’m not sure if that’s something that happens in bunnies too.

What a mess… But I’m glad that it’s something that can be fixed (wink wink, nudge nudge… ehm… I’ll see myself out…)

Sadly it happens sometimes that adoption places advertise with fixed rabbits, and you get a surprise when you take them home 🙁

A friend of mine is very fond of rescuing and she brought her male bun to a shelter to be…[Read more]

I don’t have anything to add about the peeing issues, but I read that she often has stomach problems.

Discuss it with your vet first, but this is what helped our bridge bunny Breintje: switching to grain-free pellets. Breintje often had mushy poop which smelled rather bad: a bit sour and even eggy at times. Switching pellets improved his…[Read more]

There are some ideas here: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Hay#Encouraging_your_rabbit_to_eat_hay

While odd to ask, a picture of your set-up, including how/where hay is offered would be helpful. Sometimes how you present hay can be very important: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rabbits/comments/tzl60n/care_importance_of_presentation_pt_2/

You’re not a bad bun owner lol. I have a house full of senior bunnies and cannot recall when last had blood test done. I def understand the reluctance to take them out of their comfort zone.
It’s one of those dilemmas being an attentive bun carer. Debating whether to take a rabbit to vet for our peace of mind vs the possible stress of that cau…[Read more]

Haha, yeah!!  He recently got a haircut at the vet (to our chagrin) but he’s always favored a very emo hairdo 😉

Thank you so much, Ellie! 🙂

They did a thorough check of his back teeth? Hmm… Well, have you tried fresh grass at all? Perhaps he would like that instead of dry hay.

Professional pest control companies claim to be “safe for pets”. But I think they are referring to cats and dogs. It may not be safe for sensitive animals like birds and small critters. So yes, I would ask specifically what they are using. Even then, I would be wary about treating areas your bunnies have access to. Spraying under kitchen cabinets…[Read more]

It’s delighting to see your bunnies grow up and form new habits. But some are a bit daft. What are the daftest habits your buns have?

Owen thinks he’s spiderman. At least, when he’s been held. He has the weird habit of climbing up upon your shoulder, and then over it down your back. It doesn’t seem to bother him that he ends up upside-down, he…[Read more]

Creams can do more harm than good because they might stick to the remaining fur and make ut un-fluffy and less protective. When my bun got sore hocks I wrapped them with vet adhesive bandage lined with his own fur, like in this article by Dana Krempels: http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/sorehocks.html

I changed the bandage daily (because I wanted to…[Read more]

    Thank you so much!

The time of day may be part of the reason for the behaviour change too: we had a late afternoon and a midnight session, while we usually do an after dinner one.

Especially at midnight they were all over the place, and Molly made a lot of noise by destroying the willow tunnel and the cardboard box. She seemed to be frustrated.…[Read more]

Yeah, I would have him checked first before concluding that he is just being picky. If he wasn’t a big hay eater to begin with, then it could have caused uneven wear on his teeth.

Poor Apollo. Bunnies can be difficult to medicate sometimes. I feel your pain! Once you get a routine down though, they often just settle into it. Does he accept a treat afterward? That usually helps if they are expecting to be rewarded.
