Unfortunately its to late, the females are already to far in there pregnancy but the male will be getting neutered this coming Wednesday but that still leaves me with two pregnant females. I’ve bit off more than I can chew. I love these rabbits and regardless what happens all 3 have a forever home with me but the babies on the other hand will need…[Read more]

OK…. I wasn’t sure where to post this but I’m literally going to have over 20 bunnies on my hands and I’m going to need help to find them homes.

Here is what happened. I live in the UK. I rescued 3 rabbits, one male and two female which are both pregnant and I did not know they were pregnant so I think I’m going to be in over my head with lots…[Read more]

yes, the weight loss doesn’t seem dramatic, but because he’s small it feels a bit scary to feel his spine and hips like this. He’s otherwise in good spirit and eats and drinks well, so i’m not alarmed by the situation yet, but of course, this excess of cecotropes is not normal, so trying to help the little guy the best we can.

    Regarding the oat,…[Read more]

It doesnt sound like really alarming weight loss, which is obviously great! As Wick says, even with reduced pellets he should be able to maintain his weight if he is a good hay eater already.

The protein content of oat hay depends on time of harvest. You could perhaps take out some, or most, of the seed heads, because that’s where most of the…[Read more]

Yes, during his GI stasis and first part of recovery, he basically didn’t touch a pellet for almost 3 weeks altogether, we were feeding him with syringe for a few days as recommended by our vet. He had a healthy weight before but we don’t know exactly how much he weighed, something around 1.430 kg I think, and when we brought him back to the vet…[Read more]

If he is close to a healthy weight, his body will do a decent job maintaining/regulating to his healthy weight even if you reduce pellets slightly. He was obviously not eating as much while going through stasis, so weight loss is natural. Even with reduced pellets, he’s probably still getting enough calories now that he’s recovered to get back to…[Read more]

    Hi, thanks for the feedbacks

He actually has no issue whatsoever eating hay. He does eat a lot of it already, and drink normally. I have now only decreased his pellet portion by half, and included some Protexin pellets (probiotic) that I usually give him in small quantity as a treat.

I have fresh oat grass from the garden and dried one (form our…[Read more]

Your poor bun has been through a tough time.

I agree that you could reduce pellets a bit without stopping them completely. You might also try feeding a variety of hays to help give extra nutrition and help encourage even more hay eating and healthy gut flora. Oat hay can be especially good and would help with his weight loss.

    You could also try…[Read more]

You could cut back on pellets, without stopping pellets altogether. Its safer to cut back than to stop, unless your bun is a confirmed voracious hay eater. You must keep an eye so he actually does eat a good amount of hay, because you absolutely don’t want any additional weight loss.

A bun thats not used to eating lots of hay can loose weight too…[Read more]

Happy belated Gotcha day Snoa! Also those hedgehogs are so very cute!

I’m ready to move on to 2023 if you don’t mind. We found out last week that we have to move house again (this time last year we moved because the owners wanted to sell their rental), unfortunately the owners sold our rental and the new owner wants to move in. Yay šŸ˜› So now I’ve…[Read more]

Pennyroyal has its sets of flowers in small “puffs” along the stems, like in this picture.

Peppermint has longer sets of flowers, mainly located at the tip of the stems Peppermint also has longer leaves and the whole plant growsĀ  higher than pennyroyal.

I often use the free app Plantnet for plant identification. Its not fool proof, you have to…[Read more]

<p data-xf-p=”1″>Hi, I know there has been many threads about this but all those I could find regarded young bunnies. Miso is over 2 years old. He had a case of GI stasis and was recovering when we got a heatwave that affected him (bad timing)… He eats and drink normally, but in the past few days, he has been producing a lot of cecotropes (some…[Read more]

Both can be aggressive and spread, but pennyroyal has much smaller leaves than peppermint. Are you sure it’s not creeping charlie? That is much more common in lawns than pennyroyal. At least it is in the midwest.

Oohh, what if we don’t know what type of mint it is?

We have “free range mint”, it was here when we moved in, we encourage it for the bees, who LOVE it.Ā  For all I know, it’s catnip.

Would this be ok for buns and gpigs?

Well that’s good to hear! I’ve also noticed that she’s been grooming a lot recently. I can’t tell if she’s in a molt or not. She’s specifically been focused on her back legs, chest, and left side. She needs a nail trim but I haven’t wanted to stress her out with all the gut issues.

If that is what happened, then they should go back to normal eventually. There was a bunny on here awhile back that was very skinny from malnutrition. I’m wondering what the member did to help him gain weight without giving him too much too soon.
