tbunnie started the topic Little bit of mucus in poop? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 3 years, 10 months ago

Hello, my 6-month old bunny had the tiniest bit of mucus(?) in her poop today, a picture attached below. I’m not exactly sure if this is mucus or something else, it is clear-ish and jelly-like. A couple of days ago, she also had the smallest bit of mucus in her poop, even less than the one in the picture. Apart from those two instances, she has…[Read more]

If they ARE fruit flies, then they are harmless. The will lay eggs on certain types of litter, but the litter would need to be moist to attract them. Cleaning the litter box more often would solve the problem. Thinking back to genetics class… fruit flies turn into adults about 14 days or so after hatching.

And yes, there are other…[Read more]

If anyone is knowledgable about bonding, your help/input would be GREATLY appreciated.

The short version of my question I am looking to have answered is – is it normal for a first rabbit to behave unusually aggressive and on edge while pre-bonding? He chins everything like crazy, and has even lunged at my boyfriend while trying to add some hay to…[Read more]

I  have been dealing with the same issue with Cooper and Bonnie! It is incredibly annoying but it is pretty common and I don’t think it’s a huge issue, as long as they go back to normal after.

With my two, I’ve opted to wait to lock them in until after the pellets are actually on the ground so they aren’t running around in the pen. I’m also…[Read more]

    Hey

So Nellie and Glenn have had a solid bond for some months now. They are very loving and relaxed with eachother. They are fine when getting treats, hay, morning pellets and veg but when I give them their nighttime forage they are a little aggressive. I know food aggression can be common in pairs but I’m just after some reassurance I guess.

    I…[Read more]

are you certain they are fruit flies? If so they are likely coming from somewhere else in your home, they wouldn’t be attracted to hay or the bunny boxes. There are also these little gnats that can breed in sink drains etc. There are other types of small flies that can be a risk for buns (flystrike), but really only if the buns have feces stuck to…[Read more]

Anyone have issues with fruit flies from either hay or literbox? We changed the liter box once a day and replenish hay 2x a day… recently i’ve noticed an increase in fruit flies… i’m wondering if it has anything to do with these two things.. anyone have these issues and what did you do?

    Oh, lovely!

I have a small-ish cat waterbowl for my bun, its lower on one side so it’s easier to drink from. Didn’t think of that before, great that changing the waterbowl has made a difference!

Sounds like a good compromise! Then you can do some pre-bonding at home and then send them off to the bonders to have them finish things up.

Since one of your buns is free-roam, you will likely want to pen her during this process for simplicity. People seem to have the best success with setting up two side by side pens in the main room where the…[Read more]

Aha! Bonding site has given a half way option, stage one at home and stage two with them, that feels a bit better, not to crack on and block off an area the bunny can no longer have, oh fun!

Oh I just feel so mean though 😂 issue is now the new bunny they said they’re only holding for a few days as they need the space. How horrendous is this going to be if I opt to do at home given I have a full time job and can’t quite pick her up yet? I’m just thinking absoluty what’s best for her, I can put my big girl pants on…ish haha

what is their housing situation? Is the male in the same room as the females? If so that could be making things worse.

I’m also wondering if it might help to change clothes between interacting with the buns. Rabbits are super scent oriented so having something like a hoodie that is only worn when dealing with the male might help.

    I’ve also heard…[Read more]

Awww I’m sorry its a difficult time with the buns 🙁 it does sound like hormonal, territorial behaviour.

Spaying and neutering really does wonders for this type of behaviour, usually spraying and aggression will stop after neutering. Do you have any updates or dates for the vet appointments yet?

I agree with Dana. I have heard many success stories of people using bonding services. I also follow a couple rabbit rescues on social media and they are alway posting updates about bunnies they have in for bonding and they are very knowledgeable. Some bonding services may even have your rabbits back and ready in a very short amount of time…[Read more]

She’s great! Also I’ve changed her water bowl to a lower one and I haven’t noticed wet chin since then.
