I mashed it into banana at first! His tramadol is the “tutti fruiti” flavor but I think it is still a bit bitter. Now I just mix it in his Emeraid without the banana. I noticed he didn’t like it at first… but now he gets excited about it, probably because he’s somewhat addicted to it?
So are you sure about the mg/kg you were prescribed? What…[Read more]

Ooh that’s interesting insight! Maybe adding some more enrichment for her would help? If you search the forum for “boredom buster” toys there are lots of ideas for DIY toys that might help her direct some of that energy to something safer.

It sounds good that she’s eating more hay again! She could have had some gas from eating less hay than normal.
I have one bun that will eat lots of hay if he can access one of the hay bags. It’s almost like he prefers hay that he’s “found” over hay that he’s been given. So I stuff some hay into a bag and put it on the floor where he can…[Read more]

Speak to your vet about the age issue to get specific advice based on your bun’s history. Some of what I’ve done, and things I’ve been advised to do, are not commonly recommended things, but are what my buns need based on their medical history and personality.
My vet actually recommended junior pellets for the alfalfa, extra nutrition and…[Read more]

Some things are “less bad” when used topically. For example, an eye drop containing a steroid is going to be less worrisome than an oral steroid. We used eye drops containing a steroid for one of my buns because we didn’t to get the inflammation down. Steroids are definitely a last resort, especially oral steroids. But I wouldn’t be as worried…[Read more]

If you cant make the medical shirt work by washing/shrinking it, maybe you could make an e-collar of a paper saucer? It is of course important that your bun cant reach to bite at the surgical wound.

Update: She’s acting fine now, I’m not sure if it was a little bit of gas or she just needed to wake up from her nap more lol.
Yesterday evening I got her to eat a good bit of hay and some of the orchard hay too, I spread out some hay in a big storage bin so she could pick through it better and it worked, she ate out of it for a while.
I gave…[Read more]

I’ve had Miffy for over a year now and she’s constantly running around licking me and following me anywhere I go and getting up to mischief. My sister came to visit a few days ago – for context she has bpd and we aren’t very close. On the afternoon of the 10th (tuesday) my sister had a bit of an episode and started screaming at us while Miffy was…[Read more]

Vetericyn Plus seems very good for rabbits. We have one member that uses it for their elderbun, as prescribed by their vet. I’ve never used it myself but I have it on my list of potentially very useful meds. You could perhaps try it since it is OTC.
Dexamethasone pills doesnt seem like a grest option for a bun, I agree. Oral corticosteroids are…[Read more]

Ended up feeding him some critical care which seemed to perk him up. He ran about like toddler on a sugar high and refused to eat hay or greens but did eat a small piece of apple and tried to get more. He’s stopped being so hyper and has had a little hay and drank a lot of water, so here’s hoping he’s on the mend.

Hello! My bun has recently had a lump removal from the side of the body between front and back leg. Surgery went well, it was a surface growth, and they came home with a tie up medical shirt. It has since stretched out a bit and they continue to get one front leg out every few hours. The vet suggested to take them out of it and giving the shirt a…[Read more]

Thank you for the term “barbering”! I looked it up and yes, I think that may be what’s going on with all the possibilities open.
We will finally be going to the vet soon (appts are far out) and will check to see if the one being barbered has any other issues that may be related but I think the one doing the barbering, at a minimum, needs more…[Read more]

He’s been not feeling well since around 2:30ish (about 4hrs). I have tried 3 doses simethecone and Metacam. He luckily isn’t getting worse, but is not great either. He won’t eat and is acting like he can’t get comfy. I have given him a couple massages and some weak peppermint tea. He did have a few poops early on, but none anymore.
My vet s…[Read more]
