Hello! My bun has recently had a lump removal from the side of the body between front and back leg. Surgery went well, it was a surface growth, and they came home with a tie up medical shirt. It has since stretched out a bit and they continue to get one front leg out every few hours. The vet suggested to take them out of it and giving the shirt a hot wash and dry to see if I can shrink it. I’m worried about continuing to stressing them more for this medical shirt, any suggestions?

It has been 5 days since surgery. They are otherwise alert, eating, and do not seem happy to be so constricted though it has the benefit to prevent them from being too active I guess. The vet they see is not a small animal specialist, however they did consult with their exotic vet contacts before surgery and they have an exotic vet tech who is quite experienced. I live out in no where and my lovely bun does not travel well. Any advices appreciated, thank you.

If you cant make the medical shirt work by washing/shrinking it, maybe you could make an e-collar of a paper saucer? It is of course important that your bun cant reach to bite at the surgical wound.

Some people have made medical shirts using an old sock, preferably a stretchy one. You cut the end off and then cut out arm holes.
