Oliver_Rabbit replied to the topic Gentamicin / Betamethasone Topical Spray for Rabbits? in the forum DIET & CARE 3 years, 6 months ago
Thanks Bam and LBJ10 for all of your advice! I just got back from the follow-up, and they were surprised by the amount of fur that’s grown back and how good it’s looking. I don’t believe it’s systemic, but was rather an isolated issue, as you said aggravated by him constantly messing with it. With that being said, I probably won’t use the…[Read more]

They can also have matted fur on their cheeks, from smearing snot onto their faces when they groom themselves.
Clear discharge can as a rule be monitored. Opaque and/or colored nasal discharge indicates a bacterial rabbit “cold”. It isnt necessarily very expensive to get treatment for (standard treatment is as a rule oral antibiotics like Bactrim…[Read more]

If the cause isnt systemic, ie due to some sort of illness, f ex a autoimmune ailment, Vetericyn seems like a great option. Would be lovely if it works!
Pets really can aggravate stuff by constantly messing with it. If you end up having to use the gentamycin spray, I’d consider an e collar (my rabbit savvy vet recommends using a DIY e collar…[Read more]

I did end up buying some and it seems to be helping!
Yeah that’s what I’ve read as well and was surprised that she even prescribed it. To be fair, while they do see exotics, I believe their speciality is more dogs/cats.

Both vets could not give a definitive answer, but immediately ruled out mites or injury. They suggested that it might’ve been dry skin that was further irritated by him constantly touching it. I do have a follow up later this evening, but it’s looking a lot better and the fur is starting to grow back.

It sounds like this scary event just put her on high alert. I’m sure she will calm down after awhile.

We’re going to need some more information. What does the discharge look like? Is it clear? White? Any sneezing? What about their paws? Oftentimes, bunnies with runny noses will have gunk on their paws from wiping.

As long as she is tolerating the extra treats, I don’t see any harm. If she is having trouble keeping weight on, then extra pellets are not a bad thing either. I would just continue to monitor things and make adjustments as needed.

LBJ10 replied to the topic My Bunny Having Seizures? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 3 years, 6 months ago
What you’re describing sounds like a seizure. Unfortunately, seizures can be caused by a number of different things. Your best bet is to have a vet do an assessment to determine what is causing the seizures. EC is a common cause, but not the only one.

Some people have made medical shirts using an old sock, preferably a stretchy one. You cut the toe end off and then cut out arm holes.

I’ve been making sure she’s eating well and she’s been pooping fine so that’s a relief haha
She’s doing a bit better today with the activity levels so fingers crossed it stays that way and she has lots of areas to hide throughout the house too so that’s a bonus. Thank you for the reassurance! 🙂 -

I definitely think bonding these two was a great idea! Sandy has had such a positive impact on Starlight’s eating habits. Before she would only eat certain hay brands and certain types but now that she sees Sandy eating whatever hay I give him she decides to eat what he eats. Lol.

Oh good to know! I tried sandwiching the drops between thin banana slices and it kind of worked once — then mashing into banana was a no for him. We’ll keep trying! (Doing oral syringe in the meantime.) I hope he comes to see it as a help, like Bun Jovi does.
I’m pretty sure — our mixture is 50 mg/ml (maybe why it’s sooo bitter!) and he was…[Read more]

Oh man, now I think Cooper has a bladder infection. All of the sudden (starting today) he’s dribbling dark brown urine all over the place. Poor baby doesn’t look very comfortable either. Hopefully our vet will be able to see him tomorrow or at least early this week.

I’m sorry you and had to go through all of that. 🙁
I think she will get back to normal soon. The important thing is to make sure she’s eating enough and pooping normally, to make sure the stress didn’t cause a gut slowdown. Making she has a quite place with hides and her familiar things will help.

DanaNM replied to the topic Dorian has another upset tum in the forum DIET & CARE 3 years, 6 months ago
I’m glad he perked up! My go-to when a bun is off are to start with fluids and simethicone. If that doesn’t help I feed them and give metacam (if I have it and the bun has had it before). If I’m unsure I usually just do a very small amount of food and see how that goes. It sounds like your intuition was the right move in this case!

DanaNM replied to the topic Oval poop in the forum DIET & CARE 3 years, 6 months ago
Sounds like she perked back up! I think it’s probably OK to monitor at this point. It’s very possible she just had some gas due to a period of eating less hay.
