Fai started the topic Hay gone bad? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years ago

Hi, I bought a 10lb box of Timothy hay about a week or two ago and today I noticed that some of the pieces of hay are turning a little brown in color. I’m not sure if it’s going bad and I should stop feeding my bunny this, or if it’s still okay. It doesn’t smell bad or anything and my bunny still eats this probably as much as he did when I first g…[Read more]

what do you mean by “then the rest every 4-6 hours 1ml-2ml?”

Phone books make great rabbit toys… if you can actually find one. LOL

I’ve never found a great source online (the shipping is prohibitively expensive), but if you look for feed supply stores, or hardware stores in winter they often carry them. They are also sold as wood stove pellets (with no additives or propellants).

Yes, kiln dried pine is perfectly fine. Treated lumber of any kind isn’t safe.

I think you may have moved to non-neutral territory a bit too fast. You want them to be basically bonded before you move them out of the neutral space.

Cooper is like that with pellets too! Wick’s suggestions are great!

Yep, not much you can do except keep them out of reach or put some kind of protector on them.

I use NIC cubes to block areas where there are cords, and strategically placed furniture!

Rabbits seem to like the expensive ones the best!

I think covering the pen is a good idea. It will discourage Cookie from trying to jump out.

I’m going to lock this thread now, as advice has been given and there is no use continuing to circle around.

I’d like to reiterate what Wick said to all participants of this discussion:

LBJ10 replied to the topic Rabbit seems to have little appetite, and gas? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years ago

I wouldn’t be overly worried since he is still eating, even if it is less normal. It could just be gas still. I agree with Dana that it may be time to see a vet, especially if simethicone hasn’t been helping.

I’m right there with you with the planning, I recently got jugs to store 30 gallons of emergency water. Our house is on a well, so if the power goes out for any length of time we won’t have water!

Since it has been a long time since this started, I think it’s time to go to the vet and see what’s going on. Until you can get to the vet, you can try giving some simethicone and keep doing the tummy rubs.

That’s really great he ate some greens and hay! Often rabbits in stasis wont eat their pellets, so that’s normal. Pellets are food but lower in fiber so it’s actually OK if he won’t eat them.

Critical care is not a treatment in itself for gastric stasis, but it is am important part of supportive care and for the rabbit’s eventual recovery. In…[Read more]

Update: he started eating hay just now, I was making sure he will eat so I give him some pellets and he ate them but he won’t eat the veggies he ate the parsley tho. Also, some of his poop is moist and is bigger than before. Hmm, should I mix the critical care with the tea hay instead of regular water?
