I have a 1 year old male lionhead who seems to have lost his appetite. About 20 hours ago i noticed him pressing his belly to the floor and he wouldn’t eat (not even treats) so i knew something was wrong. I gave him a belly massage and it helped since afterward he would take food from my hands. It appeared he had gas cause i could feel it when i was massaging.

I haven’t seen him belly press since last night and he is eating but it’s significantly less than usual and he will mainly only eat from my hands. (i have seen him at his pellet and hay bowl only twice). Even when eating from my hands he acts strange with the food, i have to shove it by his mouth about 10 times and he’ll continuously turn his head away but eventually eats it. I refilled his hay bowl and pellets 20 hours ago and there is little difference now in the amounts, so he’s ate little by himself. He loves pellets especially so it’s strange the bowl still has some left.

He hasn’t been acting lethargic and has been pooping and peeing but is just eating less food. He hasn’t had any environment or diet changes recently so i’m not sure what to think of this. Does anyone have ideas?

Since it has been a long time since this started, I think it’s time to go to the vet and see what’s going on. Until you can get to the vet, you can try giving some simethicone and keep doing the tummy rubs.

I wouldn’t be overly worried since he is still eating, even if it is less normal. It could just be gas still. I agree with Dana that it may be time to see a vet, especially if simethicone hasn’t been helping.
