Hmmm, this is tricky. I do think the vet is the best option for now, because there could be a number of things going on, with different recommendations for each.
How long ago did this all start? And does he have a good appetite for hay? Any other symptoms (like symptoms of pain or discomfort)? Pain signs in rabbits include: loud tooth grinding,…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic 12yo w/ bottom tooth/jaw abcess in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 6 months ago
I’m very sorry you are going through this. 🙁
When my rabbit had this exact issue (abscess in the jaw), he had it surgically cleaned out, and then was put on 6 weeks of penicillin injections, which cured the abscess. Without surgically cleaning it out it is unlikely to improve, but my vet said that in older rabbits who aren’t good candidates…[Read more]

@Rainyy: That’s so sweet ^_^ One happy bunny!
We haven’t noticed it yet in Owen and Molly, but Breintje’s butt always twerked when he ate banana… and his own cecals… 🙄 Ah well, nothing better than homemade, eh?
@Bladesmith: ooh, a fussy one! Love it ^_^

Thanks for the support everyone!
We were given medicam, gabapentin, more critical care (papaya flavored this time), and protein powder
Unfortunately I think they gave us too high a dose of pain medicine (gabapentin) .24mls. After we administered it the first day, he didn’t hop around or do anything for 9 hours. He just sat hunched and didn’t hav…[Read more]

Breintje was one of the Icons of bunnies when I first came to this board. He just seemed…eternal. I am so sorry for your loss, Ellie and Bas.
It’s really hard to accept that our beloved bunneh overlords are here for a good time, not a long time.
I know you’ve got your Owen and Molly now, but Breintje’s spirit will live forever on these p…[Read more]

Definitely a mix or false dwarf. Still a handsome, handsome fellow. This is what a full grown black otter Nethie looks like:

@Bladesmith: Hi, it’s really great hearing from you again! ^_^ I’ve only recently returned to the forum, and I’m still not using it often because my hands are acting up. Recovering though! 🙂
Breintje’s passing was completely unexpected for everyone, even the vet was shocked. In fact: Breintje became super affectionate in his last week and was…[Read more]

Thanks for your reply. We sent a fecal sample to the lab and it was negative for parasites. He is currently still taking the Nystatin for a possible yeast overgrowth and it seemed to be helping at first, but not so much now. He is eating Oxbow Adult Timothy Hay pellets and a 50/50 mix of Timothy and Orchard grass hay. He is still eating completely…[Read more]

Hey, sorry you are going through this. It sounds like your bunny is still having cecal dysbiosis issue. Has there been any parasitic investigation done, such as coccidia? One of my vet specialists said that if bunny gets persistent mushy poop they sometimes empirically treat them for coccidiosis. From my experience, cecal dysbiosis takes time to…[Read more]

Alright everyone, I’m back with another update. There seems to be a daily pattern going on that I need to get to the bottom of. For the last week or so, Mickey barely poops from the hours of 8 am – 5 pm. He is acting fine, eating tons of hay, etc. but he seems very gassy and I can hear his stomach gurgling. He will sit in his litter box and lift h…[Read more]

So maybe I’m going crazy here, I really don’t know how this has all happened so fast after the break…. Maybe due to Bella being so much more comfortable on pain meds, maybe due to them missing eachother and having lived side by side for months now, maybe a combination of both… But they are doing great!! It’s like a switch has just flicked and…[Read more]

That sounds like a truly wonderful vet clinic!
My little Vilde was put to sleep during one of our more strict periods of covid restrictions (they go back and forth a lot), I’m glad I even got to be with him.

He doesn’t get poofy, but Loki goes in head first, and all I can see of him is everything from his ears back. His whole face is in his salad.5 minutes later, there’s a perfect circle of greens spread around the plate.
And the spoiled monster won’t eat those scattered greens unless I pick them all up and put them back on the plate.

Hey Bam! So sorry about losing Vilde. Seems a lot of that was going on while I was gone. *Sigh* Bunnies should get to live as long as parrots. Clearly a design flaw.
I kinda bailed on you guys during the refit, and I’m sorry I did. I had a lot going on with my daughter, Covid, and online at home learning. Last year was a freaking nightm…[Read more]

I understand I might be doing something incorrect, I’m genuinely trying to give this bunny the best life I can and would appreciate kind education.
I don’t really remember exactly when it started, but several months ago I noticed that my rabbit’s bum was really messy. Messy as in his feet, legs, genitals, tails, and whole back behind his tail…[Read more]

Thank you everyone.
I forgot to add how wonderful my vet office was. Dawn and Loki were unofficially adopted as their office bunnies, and I can bring neither of them in without them getting spoiled rotten. They adored Dawn, and she was always so good for them. While I was waiting for the vet to come in, every single tech that worked with her…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Ran Out Of Pellets in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 6 months ago
You can give some chinchilla pellets. They’re a little higher in protein than rabbit pellets, but that won’t be an issue if this is just for a few days. With some chinchilla pellets and her normal hay and veg, she’ll do fine!
