Ellie from The Netherlands replied to the topic UPDATE, please read: Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Outbreak in North America in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 4 months ago
I’m so happy that vaccines are becoming available across the pond as well! It worried me for a long time: it’s a dreadful disease and so contagious 🙁
Our bunnies get the 3 vaccine combo Nobivac Myxo-RHD plus, which is a once a year vaccine now. Before that they got Nobivac Myxo-RHD once a year and since 2017 Eravac against RHD2 twice a…[Read more]

Ellie from The Netherlands started the topic More emoji, is there a list? in the forum TECHNICAL STUFF 4 years, 4 months ago
Does anyone have a list of emoji that you can use on this forum? There are only 16 in the list when I want to post, but I’ve seen other people use other emoji like rabbits, clovers, hearts, etc. How do you get these?
I tried to use emoji shortcuts lists that work in other chat messengers, but they don’t seem to match.
In most messenger services…[Read more]

Ellie from The Netherlands replied to the topic Are We Bad Bunny Owners? in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 4 years, 4 months ago
Just asking yourself that question already says: no, you’re not bad owners.
Having to keep them outside in such hot weather is less than ideal indeed. I’d try to find a place where they can be boarded for the time that you need to move to your new home.
If there aren’t friends or family who can house them indoors, professional boarders may help…[Read more]

Update on Tater! He had a single molar spur that was stabbing him in the tongue. It was removed. Almost as soon as he came out of anesthesia he started eating on his own. Today I got the news that he can come home tomorrow! He’s eating, drinking, pooping, and doing binkies! I’m so relieved.

Dear Owen, could you please stop trying to get yourself into trouble? I admire your creativity and curiosity to find new ways, but you’re driving me up the wall… 🙄
Long story short: Owen probably ate 1,5 cm of a tie-wrap yesterday. He seems to be totally fine, my nerves are anything but. Young bunnies….
Owen is very much a free bunny:…[Read more]

Ellie from The Netherlands replied to the topic Matted tail from persistent incontinence, how to clean. in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 4 months ago
Yes, discuss it with your vet and see what you can do. She didn’t shave it herself either, but a pet trimmer did it for her. The vet often knows a good pet trimmer too.

Did you try the banana trick yet? That got some of the most stubborn bunnies to take their meds. Banana or apple sauce.
Take a very ripe banana, cut it into slices and freeze it on a plate so they don’t stick together. After defrosting it becomes a sort of jelly which is easy to mix with meds.

I haven’t been able to figure out how to really shave her safely, only trim. The tail fur had hardened together so firmly that even trimming was not doable. The cream I have doesn’t have zinc oxide so I don’t know anything about that yet. I will do some checking.

“What reason(s) are you thinking that trimming the affected fur is a mistake?”
Because I feel like maybe it has given more exposure to the skin for getting urine scald.
Thanks for the links, I will check them out.

Oh that’s an awful situation, but it’s great to see that you’re so dedicated to giving her all the best 🙂
A friend of mine had this problem too with her senior rabbit. She was a long-haired rabbit who had aggression issues and was very difficult to groom. They discussed it with the vet and ended up shaving her problem areas.
The skin was then…[Read more]

It’s so sweet of you to take her in, and I hope she’s healthy! Hope that the bond between them works as well.
Yes, it’s crazy that there’s this Easter tradition of giving rabbits. It’s seems to be mostly in the Anglo-Saxon countries though. I’ve been campaigning for “Make Mine Chocolate” on social media, and most continental…[Read more]

Thanks for drawing attention to this issue, Ellie. Unless the discussion around this progresses into anything that may breach our forum guidelines (e.g., witch-hunts, debating…), it can stay open.

Ellie from The Netherlands started the topic For European citizens: petition to ban unnecessary animal tests of cosmetics in the forum THE LOUNGE 4 years, 4 months ago
Hey everyone, I hope that this is allowed, if not: my pardon and please remove it.
There’s a European citizen’s initiative to ban unnecessary testing of cosmetics on animals. These tests are often repeat tests: cosmetics with ingredients that have already been proven to be safe in other tests.
For something as simple as cosmetic ingredients,…[Read more]

Thanks for introducing her, and thank you for taking in this rabbit — indeed, many rabbits suffer around this time of year once the family learns how much work pet rabbits may be. Please feel free to link any pictures of Judy :).

Ellie from The Netherlands replied to the topic Rabbit experts needed in the forum THE LOUNGE 4 years, 4 months ago
There’s little research about wire flooring for pet rabbits, it’s mostly about industrial scale rabbitries.
The results of these studies are often mixed. Yes, wire floors are better for hygiene. But yes, they also cause sore hocks.
Our beloved house rabbits get their hutch cleaned often enough, so the “hygiene benefit” of wire flooring is…[Read more]
