Bam replied to the topic Tractor supply hay in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 3 months ago

We’re happy that you’re posting twice in one day, so no need to be sorry, be proud instead.

Hay that’s suitable for horses is as a rule suitable for buns, unless it has a high percentage of alfalfa. Alfalfa is a legume and as such it has too much protein and calcium to suit adult healthy buns.

I give my buns horse hay from a person I know who…[Read more]

Sorry for posting twice in one day. Things are getting a bit tight and I was wondering if I can use hay from Tractor Supply instead of buying Oxbow from Chewy.

Poor bun, they can really mourn their lost partner. My condolences to you as well, it’s awful to lose a rabbit 😥

Dana gave some excellent tips and I have little to add on the bonding part because I’m new to the experience.

I do have some tips on dealing with a depressed rabbit: use all their senses to cheer them up and reduce stress. Diminish…[Read more]

I use pine pellets too! I have used them for years. Cheap, absorbs odors and can be composted.

After Owen and Molly had a false start we reset their bonding process and swapped spaces every two days for a month. In that time we saw a lot of mirroring, presenting for grooming, and flopping next to each other.

Today we took them to a completely new and neutral space: the lawn behind the building. We always thought that it was too dangerous,…[Read more]

Yes, pine pellets from TSC are the cheapest litter you can get. I use them!

We’ve been getting Yesterday’s News on chewy but I was wondering if there’s a cheaper option for us to compare it to. Would Tractor Supply Natural Pine Pelletized Bedding (https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/tractor-supply-pine-pellet-stall-bedding-40-lb?cm_vc=-10005 ) be ok?

Omg, feisty girl!! Maybe Owen is exhausted emotionally and physically from all these new impressions? Learning new things grows the hippocampal part of the brain, and that consumes lots of energy.

May has been lovely here too. Everything is so amazingly green!

Hey everyone, it’s a wonderful day in May, welcome to the May chat! We enjoyed the lovely weather and went shopping for bunny toys today. We bought large willow chew toys, which Owen seems to love. I got a lot of exercise with my wheelchair ^_^ We also had a successful bonding date. This is so heartening!

We always thought that the lawn behind…[Read more]

    It sounds lovely!

It wouldnt be so far-fetched to think that the city environment is more stressful for buns – in a city there’s always noise and nights are never completely dark. It doesnt sound like it’d be about space -more some sort of 24/7 city energy?

If your buns were young while you were living in the city, the move to the cottage could…[Read more]

    Hello bunny community!

We have recently moved from a city flat to a lovely cottage in the countryside and I have noticed quite a change in my bunnies’ behaviour!

In the flat, my rabbits were incredibly active and destroyed almost all carpet or furniture that they could lay their eyes upon. We even made them cardboard box forts that they shredded…[Read more]

CBD oil probably wont hurt. It can be used in buns, but I dont know the proper dosage.

Does your vet think the cancer has spread? If it hasnt, she could be cured by the removal of the primary tumor.

If you don’t want digging in the litter box, I would suggest using a litter screen to keep the litter in place. As for the hay, could you use a hay rack? If you design it so they cannot get inside, but only pull a little hay out at a time, then it would be harder to string all over the place. Ideally, the hay rack would only be accessible from…[Read more]

    My Sarafina

had a growth near her back leg, it was removed and found to be malignant. She is doing well, eating, drinking and pooping normal. After talking with the vet chemo is not an option. Wondering if anyone has used CBD oil to treat cancer in rabbits, I used for my dog who had bladder cancer and extended his life over year. Hoping to help bun

    Hey everyone,

So for the past week my 2 year old spayed Holland lop has decided she wants to dig in her litter (which is fine I have a large, tall litter box) but my issue is recently she’s started flicking out all the hay into piles on the carpet and makes a huge mess. On top of that it encourages Bernard (8 month old male Holland lop) to u…[Read more]
