hophophop replied to the topic Picky bunny obsessed with alfafa! Help! in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 2 months ago

Thanks Dana. Yes I meant oat hay and will definitely try giving smaller amount of hay mixed in.

We used to put down lots for her to go through during the day but during these stasis and slow-down period she snubs hay that’s out there for a day (even alfafa) so we are going through a lot. Just have to keep going back to her every hour or so and…[Read more]

Hehe, thank you Bam, I surely hope that it’s a good sign!

And we’re off! Bathroom bonding for the first time. Wish me luck…

Ellie, that pronounced flatness does look very promising! I dont think a bun would go that flat in the presence of somebunny not trustworthy or likeable!

That’s what the vet said too: a confident Nethie seems to have this powerful posture that radiates “You and what army?”.

In his younger years Breintje was unmanageable at the vet because he went wild in the carrier. After I started to carry him in the sling close to my body, he was calm, curious and even did his power stance on the table. As the…[Read more]

I’m so sorry for your loss 🙁

Agree with Bam, if the dental problems were severe enough to need extraction, there really wasn’t anything you could have done.

    Again I’m so sorry. 🙁

crazylittlebunny replied to the topic Bunny acting and eating normal but barely pooping in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 2 months ago

I brought him home on Friday, May 13th. Binky seems to be doing pretty well. He’s running around, doing binkies, and he is eating really well. he adjusted to his new home pretty quickly and he does eat a lot of his hay. Like I said in my previous post, I’ve felt his stomach/abdominal area and I can’t feel anything that would indicate a blockage…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Adult Rabbit Not Eating Pellets (But Eating Hay & Veg!) in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 2 months ago

I agree that it could be a dental issues, or something else. My Bunston would often snub his pellets as a first symptom when he was having GI issues.

Let us know how your appointment goes!

Hi there, sorry no one responded to this!

    How is Binky doing now?

At his young age it’s good to be vigilant. Not sure how recently you got him? Sometimes they need a little time to adjust, but usually by the evening on the day you bring them home they should be eating and pooping. Baby bunnies can have very small poops though. Eating more hay…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic weight? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 2 months ago

In this case I think it would be good to start weighing them more regularly and see if they are still losing weight. If they lose more, a vet visit would probably be a good idea.

Does it seem fresh? Sometimes a bag of hay will be “off”.

I’m assuming you mean oat hay? Not just straight oats?

Are you in an area where there are feed shops? If so, I would try to get a bale of fresh timothy (or other grass hay) there (they may also sell portions of bales). My buns tend to snub Oxbow hay, and they aren’t usually picky!

I think the key will be to transition really gradually. When you…[Read more]

I agree that is unusual, I was going to suggest the same possibilities as Wick&Fable. Do you notice any urinary symptoms?

DanaNM replied to the topic Can you mix essential oil in vinegar/water cleaner? in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 4 years, 2 months ago

I wouldn’t use anything with an essential oil in it directly in the bunny area. They have much more sensitive respiratory tracts so it could be irritating.

If you use 10% vinegar the smell should dissipate pretty quickly.

“Nethie power stance” !! That is a great term, and totally what they do! I’m fairly certain my Bunston was a false dwarf or at least a mix because he did that stance often!

    Ahh they look great!
Yes it’s tempting to move fast but no harm in going a bit slow!

When I get to the point where they are doing pretty well (like spending a couple hours together without incident), I will often try to do some really long sessions over the weekend (6-8 hours if they are doing OK). If that goes well I start planning for an…[Read more]

My bunny Kotton is 1 and has recently went through a hell of a stasis. After she recovered she started eating only oats. Then she had two more episodes of slow-down and rebound with meds and alfafa. Now she has been on pretty much only alfafa for the last 2 weeks. It is not good for her and I tried switching her by taking her alfafa away and…[Read more]

I’m very sorry you lost Remy. If a rabbit has a so severe dental problem that teeth need to be removed, you cant choose not to do anything. You did what a great rabbit owner would do.

It’s still so incredibly sad that he didnt make it.

    Binky free, Remy.
