Ugh so stressful!
Don’t panic though, she won’t start having the negative effects of alfalfa immediately. Important thing is she’s eating!

DanaNM replied to the topic Bonding or Bullying? in the forum BONDING 4 years, 2 months ago
That’s a great observation!
For a rabbit to groom another rabbit, they really have to trust them. So it’s partially about dominance, but it’s also about the submitting (grooming) rabbit deciding it’s safe to groom the other bun. It sounds like Tess isn’t quite sure yet, so I think more time is the answer here. Since you are seeing less chasing…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic RHD outbreak near me, precautions? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 2 months ago
I have been in a similar situation, before we got the vaccine here in 2016, then again in 2018 when my Vilde first had to have the myxo- RVHD1-vaccin and the RVHD2-shot had to be given 2 weeks later.
We did all the bio-security measures and it went well, thank goodness. RVHD2 is pretty much endemic here now, as myxo has been for as long as I can…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Bonded Bunnies – Agression in the forum BONDING 4 years, 2 months ago
Sometimes when this happens it’s due to an illness in one of the buns. Do you think there could be a subtle health issue going on with one bun?

We ended up doing a much longer session than was planned today: 3 hours! There was a big storm predicted for the late evening which hit us in mid afternoon. The weather became so extreme that I pulled all the plugs from the electrics and moved the bunnies to the bathroom, so they wouldn’t see the constant lightning flashes. The upside to the awful…[Read more]

Observation of the terribly sleep-deprived:
It’s good that the hobby breeder didn’t keep Owen to breed with him further. He can’t make heads or tails of the whole mounting process, and the ladies would only have ended up with stuffed noses 🙄
I’m constantly watching them as they interact, making sure that Molly doesn’t give him a neuter…[Read more]

Red and dark lettuces are fine for rabbits, obviously in moderate amounts.

Thanks, I found those after posting and there some from the WA state agriculture board. Some of the things I already do so that is good.
Really hoping the local shelter will set something up, as that be closer too. They are painfully understaffed and no longer have a vet though. At least I have the appointment for mid June. Still would be…[Read more]

Thank you so much for the advice. After sleeping on it I think I’m going to rehome him as he deserves the best life possible and I feel I am questioning if I can give him that

LBJ10 replied to the topic Bun has surgery in a little more than 24 hours, broken toe needs amputated. in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 2 months ago
How much does he weigh? Perhaps he needs a higher dosage or something else. You could try wrapping his foot, but then you run the risk of him chewing that as well.

That’s scary! Hopefully you can get them vaccinated soon. The House Rabbit Society does give some biosecurity tips. Maybe you will find that helpful: https://rabbit.org/biosecurity-measures-to-reduce-rhd-risk-in-your-pet-rabbits/

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Humping for no reason? in the forum BONDING 4 years, 2 months ago
Humping has reason and in this context it is dominance related and its severity/frequency is likely heightened since Elvira not spayed. Fixed rabbits will often hump during bonding because that is a hierarchical behavior and a part of their communication. Also, please note the occurrence of a false pregnancy doesn’t necessarily need to be…[Read more]

I have two buns that I am currently trying to bond, I have very little experience in bonding so I’m honestly at a loss. Biscuit, who is a rescue and has been spayed, will not stop humping Elvira.
Elvira is unspayed because she had a serious reaction to the anesthesia that was used and she started turning blue because of a lack of oxygen.…[Read more]

RabbitLove2008 replied to the topic Adult Rabbit Not Eating Pellets (But Eating Hay & Veg!) in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 2 months ago
H has nibbled a few of the new Science Select pellets, but not many. I would describe it as “tasting” more than “eating.” She still eats her veg well, and at least a moderate amount of hay. I cleaned her box yesterday evening (Wednesdays are always box-cleaning nights due to our garbage pickup schedule), and so far her new poops look…[Read more]

Poor Kiwi! If you happen to have an Elizabethan (cone) collar in his size, this may prevent him from licking his broken toe. However, it also runs the risk of creating more distress for him. . .
