hey everyone! Our bunny kiwi unfortunately broke his toe on his rear left foot (X-ray below) , I noticed it right away and got him into the vet. I speculate that it happened from possibly get his toe snagged during a excited jump in his x pen. Anyways, they determined that it needs to be amputated because a splint would likely not yield any results. So he is scheduled for surgery on Friday at 8am and it is currently Wednesday night, they gave us 1.5mg/ml metacam and told us to give him 0.75mls every 24 hours, we gave it to him when we got him and he is very clearly uncomfortable. He isn’t chewing at it but he is licking it and we’re trying to intervene when he does. He still hops and everything but I wish he would just lie down so he doesn’t hurt him self more the poor baby, we made his house as comfortable and relaxing and we can and im just wondering if there is anything else we can do to get him through until the surgery? He is eating, drinking and pooping just fine.

Poor Kiwi! If you happen to have an Elizabethan (cone) collar in his size, this may prevent him from licking his broken toe. However, it also runs the risk of creating more distress for him. . .

How much does he weigh? Perhaps he needs a higher dosage or something else. You could try wrapping his foot, but then you run the risk of him chewing that as well.
