Hi Bam, thanks so much for taking the time to reply! Your message offered a lot of reassurance which I needed. It definitely moves around when you feel it, as you press it moves from under your finger if that makes sense. It’s also round and even in shape/feel. Whatever happens, it sounds like we took the best step forward with the fine needle…[Read more]

Hi all! I’m new to bunnies so I really need all the advice I can get. My girl Thelma was spayed yesterday (I got her home around 4 pm and its now 6 am the next day). Before anything else- Thelma does NOT like to be held or touched. Without going into the long and sad backstory, she was bought by a neglectful family member and was not socialized…[Read more]

jerseygirl replied to the topic suggestions for hay boxes in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 3 years, 11 months ago

Mmm… my advice is don’t buy pricey items until after you have your rabbits and know what their individual habits are like. Save that money for future vet visits!

The hay boxes do look really nice and might help control the hay a bit but it will only take one industrious rabbit to create hay havoc! I spent half a day fashioning a hay holder and…[Read more]

jerseygirl replied to the topic Moving from house to apartment – what are some ways I can house my buns? in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 3 years, 11 months ago

Remember that rabbits do spend a good portion of the day sleeping, so try not to feel too bad if they’re shut away sometimes. A safe place is important where that can nap. I recall my original pair disappeared into a box 10am-3pm daily, despite having whole house to free roam.

Do you think a trio could be an option? That would help on the h…[Read more]

@LBJ10 are you thinking of the rabbit who’s caregiver gave her calf manna to her her gain weight? That’s the one that sprung to my mind.

I’m so sorry you had that experience with the pet sitter. 🙁 The timing does look like it’s somewhat related.

It wouldn’t hurt to get her on a probiotic. It may help and certainly won’t harm.

Rabbits can get a bit out of sorts when coming into a molt so I’m curious if you do see more obvious signs of mooting soon. She’s also at the age bunny h…[Read more]

jerseygirl replied to the topic Cecotropes mixed in with regular poops in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 3 years, 11 months ago

I’ve seen this occasionally also. If he’s poop is generally looking healthy otherwise, then I don’t  think you’d need to be overly worried (is that possible having rabbits?!).

My theory is it a cecal it two left behind in the rectum and they make their way out when next load of regular fecal poops come along. 😄

I believe there are some conditio…[Read more]

I think I found where I’d seen the leg brace. This HRS article.

Unfortunately it doesn’t show much in regards to that bandage. However, the article itself is fantastic & thorough. I suspect you’ve already pored over it because you’re already doing a lot of what is discuss…[Read more]

I’m glad he’s enjoying being loved on and spa treatment. ☺️
it feels like a gift to us humans when our rabbits are elderly and we’ve limited time with them. Their finally wanting our attention more for them just bringing the food lol.

I saw this with Rumball also. He was a no-touchies type rabbit the majority of his life but after losing visio…[Read more]

The increased hay-eating as you start panacur must put your mind at ease. Fingers crossed the panacur can make a difference. I’m envious you can get apple flavoured!

Good tip about lighting, LBJ. It could help distinguish contrast.

I’m glad to hear he likes it! Nothing worse than trying to force a bunny to take meds they don’t want. Even worse still – Asking a pet sitter to do it!

Since he isn’t seeing as well now, have you considered having a light on for him? I know that sounds weird, but it was somehow comforting to my buns. When they couldn’t see well, having a light on…[Read more]

Just another quick update, so far so good!  I also got a new bale of hay today that all the buns are very excited about (it’s 1st cut timothy instead of the second cut), and I added an extra lower sided box to their pen. He’s eating more hay that I’ve seen him eat in a while, so I’m very pleased. 🙂 I also feel slightly bad that I didn’t give him…[Read more]

It’s a very good sign that the lump is freely moveable and not attached to anything. If its round and even in shape, that’s a good sign too.

I think it was very wise to go for the fine needle aspiration. If it is something that needs to be removed,  the sooner, the better. If it comes back clear, you can keep an eye without having to be so…[Read more]

Banana baby food for the win! He licked it right off the spoon. Also the meds themselves are apple flavored so that prob helped too!

I’m glad to be able to start today just to make sure he feels OK, i know some buns can get a bit nauseous when they first start panacur.

DanaNM replied to the topic Cecotropes mixed in with regular poops in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 3 years, 11 months ago

If it’s just very occasional then I don’t think it’s cause for concern! Since he’s fluffy it could even be one little cecal that got stuck in his fur for a bit and then mixed in with the regular poops.

If it was happening often (like daily) or all the time (with poops and cecals always mixed together) then I would worry about cecal dysbiosis, but…[Read more]
