Anywhere they don’t normally spend time is neutral, so that could be an area of your home that’s away from their areas (such as a bathroom). I think given their history, doing bonding gradually may be the safest bet, so you can sure their bond is very strong and won’t break again.  So you could either bring them to the space you are currently…[Read more]

I am currently at a relative’s home almost an hour away from their permanent home. If i bring them back and house them seperately while I do short sessions would this place still be considered neutral?

You may need to slow down a bit. Try removing the litter boxes and shortening the sessions again.

This is the third day and it doesn’t seem to be getting better if anything it’s getting worse. Zhu would get annoyed instantly and would nip at Mo and retreat but Mo would see this as an attack and lung after Zhu after.

It’s very possible that it could go more smoothly because she is female, but it’s hard to say. It will take a long time before you know for sure, because you will need to wait until she can be spayed and then hormones need to settle.

If it were me, I might try to find another home for the baby, but then look into whether you could speed date your…[Read more]

They are now all set up in the living room, and I think it’s for the best for now. The nice thing is they are all waaaay more active exploring the room, and I think being exposed to each other is going to be helpful.

I head to sea for work for 2 weeks so hubby is going to rotate them every few days. We are aiming to give each bun at least 4 hrs…[Read more]

There really isn’t a way to stop those behaviors, as they are pretty normal rabbit behaviors, esp during bonding. In a bonded pair it doesn’t cause fighting. All you can really do is keep supervising and intervening before fights happen. Eventually the behaviors should calm down. How long have you been working with them in this round of…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic How old is too old? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 10 months ago

5+ is not too old. I know of rabbits that were spayed at ages 7-8 and the vet was able to successfully remove the cancer that had formed, so I def recommend spaying ASAP. It can take a while to get an appointment, so I recommend just getting the appointment somewhere, which (if you are anything like me) will make it easier to save for as well…[Read more]

    Thank you for the update!

I’m very sorry your bun is struggling. The parasite is (most likely) encephalitozoon cuniculi, commonly called EC or E Cuniculi. It is an intracellular parasite, so its very, very small (microscopic). Many buns carry this parasite, they can even get it from their mum before they are born. Treatment is Panacur…[Read more]

Hi, So we went to the vet, and they think that she had some sort of parasite (that we treated) but the side affects stay with her for the rest of her life. The seizures were mostly because of dehydration, because she can’t get to her water bowl (the parasite affected her brain, so she can no longer walk). Thanks for all your help!

Thank you so very much for this update! It is very valuable!

Im so glad to hear he’s doing so much better with his hind end! It does seem very likely that the cause of the paralysis was/is EC. The improvement seems too swift and radical for the paralysis to have been due to arthritis/joint inflammation. (Arthritis and joint inflammation can…[Read more]

    just thought I’d update this in case someone with a similar experience happens upon this post while googling;

Wolf continues to thrive. Still has that stubborn URI (on his second round of antibiotics now, definitely gonna need a third and possible change but we’ll see) but in terms of his hind limb weakness, you’d never think that just under…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Will my rabbits forget me? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 10 months ago

They wont forget about you, but you can expect quite a bit of “the dreaded bunny butt” when you return. Since their brains now have had ample time to form a strong association between you and good things like food, treats and cuddles, forgetting about you would not be functional from a survival p o v.  They will soon recognize your scent and…[Read more]

Girl rabbits are prone to uterine cancer, so it’s very wise to have them spayed. Any surgical procedure for a bun +5 years is riskier than it is a young rabbit, but rabbit savvy vets know this and have special protocols for it.

Boy buns can get testicular cancer, but it’s a lot less common than uterine cancer in does. For bonding purposes,…[Read more]

BrownietheBunny replied to the topic Sneezing vs. choking? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 10 months ago

hi! My bunny chokes a lot of times due to her dental issues, so I hope my experience can help 😆

When my bunny chokes, she opens her mouth instead cause she can’t breathe through her nose. Also, choking tends to last over a longer period of time, if your bunny is sneezing, I don’t think that he or she will keep sneezing over a longer period of…[Read more]

Hi! Definitely get it spayed as soon as possible. I wouldn’t really worry about “how old is too old”. The main concern should be reducing the chances of it getting cancer asap.
