It seems the potential is there, but there have been no documented cases in either wild or domestic rabbits. The reason they know the potential is there is through lab experiments… but it should also be noted that none of the test subjects actually exhibited symptoms. It was just shown that they were capable of shedding the virus.

    Here’s what…[Read more]

She is going to be primarily outside because of my living arrangements but I will also be bringing her inside periodically. This hutch though will permanently be outside.

Josie, my most beautiful Halloween Guinea Pig…black back, bright orange belly, Abby coat…. passed away sometime last night.

She was a rescue, so age unsure, but I suspect she was fairly old.

Yesterday was National Pet Day, so they got some extra dandelions, their fave.

It’s good it happened at night, I guess.  Gave her sisters, Jaidyn,…[Read more]

Is this for outside or inside? CC cages are very popular and easy to build, if you’re keeping the bun inside (which I would suggest). Or x-pens.

Agreed, 1/4 cup is a lot of food. Just for reference, my bun weighs 3lbs and gets 1/8 cup.

Hi everybody my bunny rabbit Archie escaped my site for 30 seconds and he ran up the stairs and found a plant that my mom accidentally left in a place that he could eat it and it happened to be a hydrangea plant by the time I caught up with him he had already eaten half of one of the leaves on the plant and I’m super nervous that he’s going to get…[Read more]

Fingers crossed your bunny will be fine, and you of course! I hope you will have a quick recovery and no lasting symptoms.

Hi guys, my mini lop went to the vet a few days ago to get checked out after MONTHS of having ear mites. I was worried because he is still persistently scratching his neck, ears and eye area. The vet said the ear wax looked normal and overall the inside of his ears looked like a regular rabbits and there was not self induced trauma anywhere. There…[Read more]

1/4 cup of pellets is a lot. How much does she weigh? I would cut down to 1/8 cup or even a tablespoon and see how that goes. Adult bunnies really don’t need many pellets, some vets don’t recommend them at all, esp if a bun is overweight (when my Bertha needed to lose weight my vet told me to just stop all pellets). You can start weighing her…[Read more]

I’m not sure if it’s becoming more common or we just have a name for it now. I recall some older threads on this forum where some people recalled having bunnies with chronic tummy issues that were likely megacolon, but just never diagnosed. It’s tricky to tease apart, because rabbit medicine has advanced so much in recent years.

    My Bertha and…[Read more]

1/4 cup of pellets (though I don’t do that much now, not sure how much it is but it’s not much), hay (of course) and 2 cups of veggies when we have it. I’ll try the switching of tunnels and I’ve been looking in to the enrichment toys like the Tokihut foraging mat and the Living World Teach n Treat toy but I currently don’t have the money for them.

    Yes they did lol!

I wonder if it’s possibly becoming more common? I myself have seen like… 5 different people who struggled with it over the past few years so it’s crazy to hear that it’s a rare thing for a vet to see. My vet was completely stumped after trying so hard to figure out why it was happening. I remember after my 37th or so visit…[Read more]

    Looks like our wires crossed!

And yes, it is still very unknown among vets. I had a foster suspected to have this, and it was rare even for my vet who has seen hundreds of rabbits per year for the last 20 years (he’s the rescue’s vet).

Thanks a bunch Bam. I actually haven’t read that article yet but your comment helped me find the one I saw, and then some! I really wish I’d’ve known about this gene when my boy was still alive. More vets need to know about it.

This is the one I was thinking of

This webpage has a ton of articles linked and is very detailed (although not organized that well). It has a section with research papers:

If you have trouble accessing any papers, let me know. I have ways to access some through my institution.
