The type of “sugar” in Benebac is frucooligosaccharides (FOS). FoS are not simple sugars, they don’t elevate blood sugar and they count as soluble fiber and are food for many beneficial gut bacteria (=prebiotics). Here is a little bit of info on FOS:

Sticking to the recommended dose is of course always…[Read more]

An ear infection of the middle ears are best seen on skull x rays. X rays are also the best way to see and determine the severity of dental problems. There are dental problems that are so extensive that they can’t be fixed, and in those cases, pain relief and adjustment of the diet are the only things you can do.

Did the antibiotics help with the…[Read more]

I’m very sorry for you and Conker.

Head tilt and nystagmus as you describe are as a rule due to either an ear infection or e cuniculi. The tests for e cuniculi are notoriously unreliable and may produce false negatives. Many vets will treat on suspicion. Treatment consists of 4 weeks of Panacur (fenbendazole), plus often meloxicam, sometimes…[Read more]

My rabbit doesn’t do anything all day. We give him tons of space to run around and stuff but he never uses it. We have almost had him for a year now and he has never binkyed but he flops a lot, he has jumped around when me let him on the grass but still not very much. He is healthy but constantly sleeps and is never super energetic.

Oh totally!  Mine neither.  What works is holding them on your lap on a couch or bed if they won’t jump off readily, or I guess something higher (a table?) if they would!  And having a buddy to help you hold them if they get too squirmy.  But even with nervous buns, I find those positions will work decently well.  (I might hold the bun with his…[Read more]

    Hi Pinkiemarie

I’m sorry I’ve only just seen your reply. I would have replied sooner if I had seen it.

Normally vets suggest hay only diet for two weeks if they have runny poos. Then add foods back in slowly to avoid upsetting the balance of gut bacteria.

The benebac and the oxbow gut treats both have chicory inulin as a prebiotic in…[Read more]

Thanks all.  We would have the vet do it but she also hates car rides and our vet is 45 minutes away. We have been able to get a few nails here and there but it has been a process.  That video is definitely helpful but our bun is nowhere near that comfortable being handled.

    Hey LBJ 🙂

Yes. I have asked the vet about it, but he is hesitant because of rabbits delicate skin. He said he normally sedates rabbits when he has to shave them and due to Caesars age, that’s not an option.

I have been giving him Oxbow Joint Support treats. He loves them, but sometimes it seems like it makes the poopy butt worse? So, I am…[Read more]

Hi, I am new to this site. I just want share with people that I was never interested in having a pet, until I got this cute little bunny. I have had her for 8 years. She greeted me in morning when I got up to have my morning coffee and she was sitting near couch where I always sit when I come home. Baby, is what we named her was so affectionate.…[Read more]

Thank you very much for your comment 🙂 I guess after reading almost every article there is on bunny poop, where everyone says poop should be one color and the same size, I was not sure if it is okay. I will definitely keep an eye on him since he is still growing and things might change.

Saturday, we said goodbye to our Lethal White Aussie, Sara, 13 1/2 yrs.

Hadn’t eaten in a week, not drinking much, no interest in anything.

Her nickname was White Rabbit.  As a youngster, she would leap thru my mom’s ivy like a bunny.

She will leave a huge hole.  Other dogs seemed ok, but today were very nervous… maybe figuring she’d be h…[Read more]

If you’re having trouble finding a vet, look for vets listed as “exotics” vets. My vet office is actually locally known as a bird vet, but one of the doctors specializes in small critters, including rabbits.
