It can be really tricky, so don’t beat yourself up! They really don’t sound unbondable to me, I think they are just being a little stubborn (but I’ve never met a bunny that wasn’t LOL). I feel like often it is just a matter of the total amount of time the rabbits spend together, so the more you can work with them, the better! Sometimes even…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Pls help! Buns had a big fight in the forum BONDING 4 years, 10 months ago
@UmisMum , glad the vet had a look and it isn’t too bad. Hopefully with some cooling off period they will be fine during bonding sessions!
Usually after a bad fight it’s good to take a break from pre-bonding for a few weeks, then resume pre-bonding until they aren’t acting aggressively towards each other through the fencing.

I think it would be good to reach out to the rescue and see what they advise you to do. They may be able to take them back from you and work on their bond for you, since they were so recently adopted. It does happen sometimes that a change in location can trigger an upset in the bond. Do you know how long ago they were spayed?
I wonder if…[Read more]

Glad Walter is doing better! Sometimes they need pain meds for about 3 days and some feeding, but he seems to be on the upswing!
And ugggh about the anal gland. That happened to my cat several years ago, not fun!

Thanks @DanaNM and @LBJ10..
They are very good hay eaters, we have two large litter boxes and if they are not sleeping, they are constantly munching.
I’ve been a little worried about their ears since you mentioned it and noticed one of them shaking his head and scratching his ear / face, so I booked a vet visit for later today to investigate. It…[Read more]

Hello,
We adopted two bonded female rabbits from an animal rescue centre about a week and a half ago. They were keen that they were rehomed together. Both have been neutered and are about 9 months old.
They were doing great. We started letting them out to roam the (secured) garden this week and then things seemed to go wrong. They had a fight in…[Read more]

I’m very happy to hear that Walter is doing better!
A ruptured anal gland 😧 I know dogs can have difficulty eptying their anal glands but I didnt know they could rupture an anal gland. I hope it can be fixed swiftly.

yes, I know it can’t happen again.
it was a mistake and I have bought new gates that are more secure to prevent it reoccurring.
I do feel very bad about it and it was an accident.Vet took a look – he is on oral antibiotics for an ear bite and she has some topical to apply twice a day.

Thanks everyone. We’ve added a night light and also found a hole where we suspect a mouse may well have been coming in and covered it. All seems to be quiet again🐇🙂

Yes your right! My plan was to start doing short daily dates during the week and longer sessions on the weekends. But then they had their sneezing issue so that put my plan on pause 🙁 Winter just finished her antibiotics on Saturday so I started getting back on track yesterday (Tuesday)
today I did a short date for 30 minutes. We had the…[Read more]

Yes, he got two doses, but not sure how much of the first one made it in him.

If they are still growing, then I think 1/4 cup is a reasonable amount. Snowball definitely has that meat rabbit look to her and your description of her “body type” definitely fits. I’m still leaning toward NZ with her. Florida White is a good guess too. You will want to keep an eye on her weight as she gets older. They were bred to put on weight easily.

Did they send pain meds home for Walter? I would imagine that he won’t be able to bounce back as quickly after his neuter since they did a more invasive neuter.
Oh wow… I guess I never thought about a dog being able to rupture an anal gland. That doesn’t sound good. 🙁

Big sigh of relief! All seems well.
He was not eating and an attempt at syringe feeding did NOT go well. He was very lethargic as well.
This morning, he was perked up and eating his greens. By the time I had gotten home from work, he had eaten pellets and finished the greens, and POOPED! Woo hoo!!
Working on some hay now.
On another not…[Read more]

Ah, gotcha!
I use these types of latches:

They often include similar ones when you buy an x-pen, and they have them at hardware stores ( I think they are called brass snaps).

Also if they are under around 7 months to a year old, they should have some source of alfalfa in their diet, usually it’s in young rabbit pellets.
