Something soft like Carefresh can also make a litter box more inviting if rough textured litter hurts their feet or feels unstable. Sometimes you see this with bunnies that are starting to get arthritis.

Sounds like a phase to be honest. But it does seem a little late for it to be from the neuter. Usually things have settled down by 8 weeks at the latest.

Small and dark spaces are very fascinating, especially to young rabbits. He will persist. As suggested above, you need to actually block his access so he can’t wiggle or squeeze his way under there. I would suggest securing the area with a fence. You could use a dog pen or NIC grids tied together. Be prepared for a temper tantrum when he realizes…[Read more]

Oh Miu never let’s him mount, that is a total no in her book… so I don’t think he will get far. But he’s not supposed to be running about for 10 to 14 days. He has his check in on February 5th.

Yes, as long as she’s munching on hay a bit then I think she will be just fine when it’s time to reduce the pellets. 🙂
When do we get to see some pics of her? The suspense is killing me!
Poor Moose and Rain 🙁 Some buns just don’t hit the genetic lottery, but it doesn’t change how much we love them. <3

That sounds very positive! Just to set yourself up for success, I wouldn’t let her into his enclosure just yet. I think their re-introductions should be in a neutral spot, just to make things a bit calmer. I would hate for a scuffle in a non-neutral territory to set things back. And of course make sure he’s cleared for exercise etc so if he does…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic vet prescribed Vectra for cats & kittens? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 6 months ago
Yep, Vectra can be used on rabbits, but there are some risks of skin irritation and chemical burns if dosed incorrectly. It’s usually only used in cases where rabbits are being exposed to mosquitos in an area with Myxomatosis. Here’s some info on it’s use in rabbits (this dosing protocol was developed by a very respected vet in my old town that…[Read more]

Agreed that the change in environment likely caused it — overtime, it should dissipate. Generally any rabbit, regardless of fixed status, will do some marking here or there in a new environment. Even though the layout is the same, the sounds and smell of the environment are very different.

Yes she’s 13 weeks now. And *sigh* I think you’re right…because a bunny that can eat hay will usually happily eat it at some point in the day. Could just have been genetics for Moose and Rain 😔. Luckily Eclipse seems to be eating hay even when pellets are present so I think I will give her 3 feedings instead of the 2, just to be sure she’…[Read more]

Moderator Dana has experience with Vectra for rabbits. I’ll alert her to this thread.
I dont know why your vet described it instead of Revolution, but one reason could be that Vectra has an insect-repelling effect. It doesnt just kill fleas upon contact, it makes fleas less likely to even get on the animal. It also kills very quickly and…[Read more]

Oh to add been just watching them a bit and they are doing a lot of mirroring, both washing at same time, eating and such. Miu approached Dorian a few times, and he watches her, both with happy ears. If he didn’t have stitches and still be recovering I can’t help feeling they just need a few moments. Don’t want Dorian to open his sutures though,…[Read more]

Now that I don’t have to feed him I can hopefully get some decent sleep. He only has meds twice a day, though I divide the morning dose as there are so many.
I let Miu come visit him in his enclosure for a bit, heavily supervised. Dorian just flopped and she mainly shuffled about and tried to find snacks. She sniffed him a little but didn’t…[Read more]

My rabbits have been having tapeworms for a while and they got dewormed but the assistant of the vet said they need flea protection too. She gave me Vectra for cats and kittens but after some research they said it’s ONLY for cats and kittens and should never be used for any other animal. I feel very concerned right now due to the fact that I j…[Read more]

How has Teddy been doing with the tramadol? I’m going to ask my vet about the dose concentrations, I’m very curious! I know she wanted to start us off low so we had room to increase as needed, so that could explain it.

She’s very young, right? Personally I would make sure she has pellets and timothy available at all times for now (if she’s still under 6 months). When she’s a bit older you can start reducing the amount of pellets she gets to encourage hay eating.
Presenting hay in a variety of ways can also encourage her to try it (stuffed in toys, toilet paper…[Read more]

Mom buns only feed the babies a couple times a day, so it is quite normal to not see her spend a lot of time with them. If you check the babies bellies you can see if they are being fed.
I’m not an expert, but I think it’s also OK (and even recommended) to handle the babies daily to help them get used to human touch and to make sure they are all…[Read more]

Sometimes a change in location triggers the bun to decide they want their litter box in a new area, or them temporarily mark the area. If the peeing outside the box continues, try moving the litter box to that area. 🙂

Caring for a sick bun is soooo exhausting, and adding another in the mix is not helpful! Miu you better snap out of it!
It’s really great he’s starting to eat more on his own and is pooping more!
I wouldn’t worry too much about the lunge. It’s possible they may need a bit of work to rebond, but in the cases we’ve seen here on the forum when a…[Read more]

Sometimes when buns get obsessed with something the best strategy is to block access to it entirely and distract them with something else until they forget about it. Buns often have “projects” that they will work on. My bun Myra goes through phases of couch-chewing obsession, so we block off the couch with an x-pen when we aren’t supervising. We…[Read more]
