Honestly, I think you’ll know. You know him as thoroughly as anyone can ever know another individual.
Vets here say people as a rule choose PTS too late. I think I did with my dog Effi. Because I did “wait and see” for 5 days after I saw the light had gone from her eyes and her life was just pain, which she stoically accepted. She had “snapped…[Read more]

The panacur treatment is finished and he’s a lot better about peeing outside of the litter box now but… he also spends most of his time in there. He’s just always laying in the litter box. I think maybe I’ll try meloxicam on a consistent long-term basis as well as weekly or maybe bi-weekly ivermectin, since it’s the only thing I give him that actu…[Read more]

Dorian is still bonded, he happily grooms Miu through the fence and his behavior towards her is unchanged. Miu seems confused. She lunges from time to time, not frequently so I am not really sure the trigger. Sometimes it is after grooming when Dorian wanders off, the other time she was eating and Dorian approached. But they have had plenty of…[Read more]

So, I’m hoping we’re still a good ways away from this, but I wanted to ask everyone for input on how you can tell if your elderbun is just too uncomfortable. 🙁 I’ve never had to make this kind of call before, and I’m pretty terrified of it.
Teddy did really well for a couple of weeks once we started tramadol, and now he’s got a little more…[Read more]

whispercalm replied to the topic Critical Care Question- confused in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 6 months ago
Thank you for your reply. The vet gave her an antibiotic because he thought there may be a chance she has a low grade urinary track infection. She’s been dribbling a little urine now and then. We were trying to cover all possible situations.
We fed her critical care and she only took about half the amount. We divided up for 3 hour feedings t…[Read more]

I had to feed critical care this week and I also found the instructions a little unclear. If the dr’s office said to feed in 2 to 3 hours I would do so tonight. You’ll want to go by the dose instructions on the package. I’m not sure if yours has the same dose as mine (if all flavors are the same dose?) but you’ll need to decide how many times per…[Read more]

We made an emergency vet visit late this afternoon. Charlie suddenly stopped eating and wasn’t acting right. Vet didn’t find anything and thought maybe she had hurt herself or might possibly have a low grade urinary track infection.
They fed her Critical care about 7pm. Gave her Sub-Q fluids. Also she has medication for pain, appetite stim…[Read more]

Yes, I would leave it if the quick were to become exposed when removed. Let the quick heal over first. Oftentimes, the piece will break off on it’s own and the quick will have healed over enough that it isn’t painful at that point.

Agreed that if it is not in quick territory, you can just clip it off so it’s not a snagging hazard. Otherwise, keep an eye on it until it’s in clipping range!

Bam replied to the topic Feeling awful about grooming my bunnies in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 6 months ago
I have a rex rabbit whose very dense but short fur wont stick to any brush or comb. I use a sticky paper lint roller on her. I first ruffle her fur with my hands (which she actually seems to like), so as to get as much hair as possible to come loose. She doesnt seem to mind the lint roller.
I’ve used this method on other buns as well, but I dont…[Read more]

It’s common for rabbits to chew and burrow, but it’s important to protect your furniture. Here are some steps you can take to redirect Dusty’s behavior:
- Provide plenty of chewing toys: Give Dusty plenty of things to chew on, such as willow baskets, cardboard boxes, and wooden chew toys.
- Block access to couch: Try putting a physical barrier,…

Rabbits may mark their territory when they’re introduced to new surroundings or changes in their environment. It’s possible that your rabbit is feeling stressed or uncertain about the new enclosure, leading to the behavior. Additionally, rabbits can also develop litter box habits and may need time to adjust to the new boxes. Here are some tips…[Read more]

It’s possible that the neutering could have affected his hormones, but it’s also possible that he is just being playful or testing his boundaries. Some rabbits can be more active and destructive when they are young. It’s important to provide plenty of toys, exercise, and mental stimulation to help keep rabbits entertained and prevent destructive…[Read more]

If there is a partially attached piece of nail you could cut it off, but it might bleed. It will eventually fall off, or the bun will remove it himself.

Hey! This afternoon I was checking my new bunny’s nails today, and I noticed one partially broken off. It’s pretty far past the quick, but the broken section is still very much attached. I was just wondering if I should clip it or let it be. He isn’t limping or anything, and it doesn’t look super bad, it just doesn’t look comfortable. Thanks for the help!

LBJ10 replied to the topic How to maintain appetite for hay? in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years, 6 months ago
Aww! Look at her! She’s definitely growing. It’s understandable that she would be focusing on pellets right now. As long as she is eating some hay, then I think you will be OK later on down the road. She should make the transition naturally when it comes time to reduce her pellets.

Keeping things smelling the same can also help. If moving to a new area or changing the setup, don’t wash anything or change the litter box initially. That way, everything still smells like it’s her territory.
