      Hey there!

I have just recently joineed Binkybunny.com and am here to join other bunny lovers to discuss and support each other through our bunny journey!

My bunny is called Perry, he is a Flemish giant is only 9 weeks old!  So I have only had the little guy for like 6 days and so far there hasn’t been any major problems!  [Watch this space in case I do encounter problems further down the road!].  Perry is definitely not neutered yet as he is way too young to even undergo such a surgical procedure. As far as personality goes the key word to describe him at the moment is ‘curious’ and he certainly is quite calm when he’s not exploring .

I would love to hear from all, so please say hi to me and Perry anytime!

Flemmies tend to be a little more calm than other rabbits. IT is usually the larger they are, the calmer they are. So expect him to be a lot like a dog and will probably even follow you around.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Do not worry about Flemmie pics, I have my camera sitting above his cage just in case! I believe I have pics of him in my profile, it’s set so that all members can view it so you’ll find pics of Perry there. He is a Fawn with white on his belly and shoulder. As already said my profile, some breeders don’t qualify his coat as a ‘true flemmi’ but I have pics of mummy and daddy which I will post and tis living proof Perry is a Flemish Giant!

Because of his calm demeanor and temperament, those were the reasons that made me want to choose a Flemish for a pet . He’s still too young to be trusted around the household lol, but he follows me up and down the cage when I pass through. He truly is an adorable boy.

Aw Perry is adorable! And wow, he looks to be bigger than my bun already, and just a baby still lol. And his ears are so big hehe he’s cute. I’m so used to seeing my squishy-faced tiny-eared dwarf

Ahh yes, I too have the squishy faced itty bitty eared nethie hehe. I call her Crooked Face sometimes, cus she’s so cute when she kind of squishes one cheek in when she looks around… she’s funny It would be hilarious to see her with a flemmie!

lol does Monkey snore too? Seeing Perry’s long nose, it’s no wonder Vader snores with such a squished face lol its like there’s his [giant] eyes and then all of a sudden it drops down and goes in a little to his chin with total flat in between lol. It’s pretty funny watching him drink from a bowl though, since practically his whole face has to go in the water just for his mouth to reach

Welcome! Perry is lovely, especially his little sock paw.

Perry does not snore lol. He is getting big, but in my eyes Perry is still SMALL! I’m expecting a big adult bunny actually lol, but it’s fascinating to hear about the sizes of other bunnies! Perry sure is the gentle giant to-be…But I must admit, in the mornings, he is pretty frisky, not Flemish at all!!

I can’t wait to see how big he is when he’s all grown up! It’d be pretty funny to see my dwarf and a giant together lol. Vader is 2.1 pounds, although my vet would like to see him gain a little weight and fill out more, he shouldn’t get much bigger than that. You’re making me want a flemish Vader drives me crazy with his fiesty-ness

wow.. Monkey is 1.5 pounds lol. She was the runt tho too… poor thing. She doesn’t snore, she’s much too ladylike for that

Aww, he’s so cute! Like a little dutch marked flemmie-mix! Love him. I definitely wasn’t expecting the dutchie markings – I think they’re super handsome.

Thank you . This may sound weird, but in New Zealand many people here sell Flemmies with fawn coloured Dutch markings! I kid you not. It’s very possible that within countries there are selectively bred colours/sizes/variations on Flemmies aren’t there? I was reading an article in the UK that they have different breeding standards and Flemish Giants there look different but big too.

That’s interesting! I asked about Perry’s markings in another thread because I saw they were dutch like. I wonder if Dutch can just be a colouring/marking label seperate of the Dutch breed? I believe it is like that for Harlequin and Chinchilla (as in, you can use the terms for colouring in breeds that are not Harli or Chinchilla…..I think…)

I visit a website of a local breeder who also runs a Rescue a bit. I did see that under the breed list there is American Flemish Giant and just Flemish Giant. There’s a pic of a Flemish Giant Doe called mismarked steel. So steel and white colour, yet to me it looks like dutch markings. The colouring for this breed is also listed as only steel. So confusing!

Jersey, there’s definitely a dutch gene, so someone could breed a dutch with a flemmie once and then keep selectively breeding to get a flemmie with dutch markings. I think it’s just not usually done like it is with harlis, so we haven’t heard of it. I think it would be pretty cool to have dutch marked bunnies in all different breeds 🙂 Very interesting that in NZ there are a lot of dutch marked flemmies running around. In the US, only solid color flemmies in a few very specific colors are recognized.

In New Zealand spotty fawn coloured Flemish Giants are called Vienna Flemish giants. IT could just be that within all countries there have been selectively breed variations on the Flemish Giant!

In the states, “vienna” marked animals typically have blue eyes and are used to breed blue eyed whites. Usually you find viennas in the smaller breeds – nethies, holland lops, rex, etc. I think they’re gorgeous and you’re so lucky that they have something similar in flemmies where you are! I love bunnies with spots and markings and I love flemmies, so it sounds like the perfect combo to me 😉
