I would not use it due to ingestion risks. The following topic from the past includes a quote from Dr. Dana Krempels: https://binkybunny.com/forums/topic/litter-with-baking-soda/

Thank you everyone for your kind words, I will miss him a lot he was like my child and best friend, but I find comfort in the fact he’s no longer suffering, I kept it all at bay for for a very long time thanks to echinacea but nonetheless it happened, I know lop eared rabbits are not as lucky. I did however give the vet an ear full on not having…[Read more]

I got Baylor, my rabbit, a new litter to try because his litter was out of stock, and the best kind I could find is a paper pellet litter which is meant for cats. It says it has baking soda in it for odor control and I was wondering if that’s ok for rabbits?

DanaNM replied to the topic Excessive Mounting in the forum BONDING 4 years, 10 months ago
Ok thank you, that’s helpful!
What type of space are you using for the bonding sessions? I ask because sometimes in cases like this sometimes having a very large space can help. That way the bun being mounted can run away and things are less likely to escalate.
The other thing that jumps out to me is that you’ve only been doing daily sessions…[Read more]

Hmmmm, this is tricky! Can you fill out the “Bonding Template” and paste in your reply so we can get a bit more info about the bonding process so far?
Lots of mounting in bonding situations is not unexpected, even when both bunnies are neutered. It is one way to express dominance, and can take a while to calm down. Does it tend to lead to a fight…[Read more]

I think knowing when “it’s time” is one of the hardest things we have to do as pet owners, and is also a gift when an animal is suffering, and I think you know her best. There comes a point where quality of life becomes the focus (as you mentioned), and it does sound like her quality of life has deteriorated quickly and won’t likely improve.
12…[Read more]

Pumpkin is a softie, has been neutered for a while, no problems on his part.
Casper is not. He’s been neutered for more than 5 weeks but still is constantly trying to mount Pumpkin. They’ll get along, and mostly Pumpkin will groom Casper for upwards of 5 minutes, but then Casper will get upset that he’s not getting groomed anymore and thump…[Read more]

Hi all, I haven’t been on here since my bunnies were younger but now I’m at the point of saying goodbye to one of my bunnies. Sorry this is so long. I’m looking for some support although I’m certain quality of life is gone. Of the 3A’s, it’s mostly just appetite that’s left.
Oreo is 12 now and her health has been failing for awhile now. M…[Read more]

Oh my gosh! That is so crazy. Coincidentally we are also currently going through really stressful issues with our landlord. Unfortunately our lease is terrible and really favors her. We were so desperate when we moved we didn’t really realize how bad it was, plus moving to a new state we thought it was standard and not negotiable.
Essentially she…[Read more]

I’m very sorry to hear this. 🙁
You did amazing for him, I agree he was very sick, as Bam said. I feel we get closer to our rabbits when they are sick, so it’s even harder when we lose them. 🙁

DanaNM replied to the topic Rabbit vaccinations USA in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 10 months ago
As LBJ10 said, thankfully we finally have a domestic vaccine for RHDV2. It’s currently approved for 38 states, and the list of states is growing. You can read about it here:
We don’t have RHDV1 in the US, and myxo is very localized to certain areas (and is a different strain than the one the current vaccines…[Read more]

You are correct. Until very recently, there were no vaccines for rabbits in the USA. Myxomatosis and RHDV were not found here. From what I understand, they don’t spread as easily because our wild rabbits are not the same as European wild rabbits. European wild rabbits are the same species as domesticated rabbits.
There have been some outbreaks of…[Read more]

I’m so very sorry you lost him. He was obviously very sick, and you did absolutely everything.
EC often affects the kidneys as well as the central nervous system. It’s an insidious disease. It can affect and do damage to any organ that has a high blood flow.

Unfortunately my Milo has passed on today, he passed away in his sleep after 4am sometime and was still warm when I found him. I tried everything with feeding, fluids, critical care, and gave him metacam before he passed. He still ate some greens, but he began to have very watery poop last night and became weaker the last few losing more ounces…[Read more]
