I use a litter box screen. I’ve used both the wire mesh kind that are sold in the Binky Bunny store, as well as homemade wire ones. I put a fluffy hay layer on top so it is soft on their feet. I’ve never had any problems with my buns hocks while using the wire mesh.

They can also grind their teeth as an expression of frustration. From my experience though, it is just a single tooth grind followed by a foot flick. Haha! So yes, this could just be loud purring, especially if your bunny is doing it while lounging.

I just submitted my latest vet experience, which was with my rabbit Snöa, who was castrated (=ovariohysterectomy) last week.

Put a wire grate over the litter. However, this wouldn’t be a good idea if your buns are prone to sore hocks.

It will probably come out shedding or him grooming himself, nothing to worry about.
