The video I posted guides you on where and how to feel to make an informed guess on where a blockage is likely. A blockage will lead to bloat, which will lead to a feeling of a balloon (firm). Confirmation/assessing with certainty for a blockage can only come from doing an actual x-ray, however, a bloated stomach is a clear sign of blockage.

Long haired rabbits are just more prone to having pearl poops. Simply having fur pass through the digestive tract does not cause a blockage. As long as everything keeps moving, it usually isn’t a problem. You can keep her brushed, which is always a good thing. But I would also encourage hay and water consumption.

How would I tell if there’s a blockage? If she stops pooping?

To better assess whether there is a blockage, please watch the following video (listen to audio as well, as it’s very important). Owners often misjudge where the stomach is, when in reality it is much closer to the rabbit’s head than assumed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVW6Rw5rZzo
If she is pooping and eating as normal, it sounds like she is…[Read more]

My rabbit (long haired) is eating too much of her hair. Her hair is everywhere, in her water bowl, her carpet in her house! I brush her every day multiple times and clean everything every day.
She’s eating it and it’s stringing her poos together. I don’t know what to do. I know they can get a blockage and I’m really worried. Today it got stuck i…[Read more]

His poop this morning went downhill today. Some water surrounding his poop. Last 48 hours I have added pellets. Yesterday night gave him little alpha alpha hay. Not sure what is causing loose poop issue. I just gave him 5-6 ml critical care to maintain his hydration.
I am in a very tricky situation right now. He is losing weight on hay only d…[Read more]

Hello, I am waiting to hear back from my bunnies vet. They don’t open til Monday. She is recovering from a. Bad case of GI. She has a hard stomach and is pushing her gut against the floor. She usually stops once I give her the pain meds, so I’m assuming she’s in pain. She’s pooping normal sized poops and cecotropes. She’s eating her critical…[Read more]

It is more likely that neither of them are at this point experiencing hormonal urges. Some rabbits experience it later — for example, my Wick did not display any hormonal urges until he was 8 months old. A baby bond (which is what they have) is considered a temporary bond expected to dissolve once at least one of them begins feeling the hormones…[Read more]

I keep getting little glimmers of hope…
In the garden just now, she’s having a wash and somehow managed to burst the bigger section of the abscess. So just cleaning her up and all of the pus in the swelling below her eye has been drained before it could solidify.
It just makes me think that we’re jumping in to this decision when actually…[Read more]

Very cute floofs!
I agree with all of the above.
My thinking is it’s very possible they aren’t in full puberty mode yet. When I had mine through puberty at about 5 months they were showing the signs, circling, honking etc, I thought that was it, I was just waiting for them to grow enough to be desexed.
Then at 6/7 months they Reallllly hit…[Read more]

He had normal poop since I got him. I believe he does not have any prior genetic issues.

So do you mean that even before he had any stasis (like since you’ve had him), he’s never had quite normal poop?
I ask because there are chronic genetic conditions that can cause these issues as well, and the dietary recommendations are different from the usual. Did he ever produce large oval shaped poops? Also, how old is he?
Alfalfa does not…[Read more]

do you know if this one is okay? I couldn’t find anything that was .9% saline solution.

Bam replied to the topic Bunny has Irritated eye? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 8 months ago
Medicinal saline is 0.009%, meaning 0.9%. You dont need any fancy stuff to rinse out an eye. Just make sure the solitition you use is normal room temp.
You can start by rinsing 2-3 times per day. If that doesnt make a difference your ver might want to do a tear duct flush.
You”ll notice pretty soon if rinsing makes a difference. If it doesn’t, a…[Read more]
