At six years old, my first Guinea Pig was a PEW, Gina, followed by my first rabbit, a PEW Netherland Dwarf, Tiny Tim.  So, I’ve always loved them.  Don’t understand the “it’s creepy” thing!

    Now I got my Boo!

Does your local shelter/rescue adopt out fixed buns?  That might be a place to start for a rabbit vet.

Our local shelter does a lot of rabbits, so I was fairly confident in getting Walter neutered there, though there was a “glitch”.

First time I took him in, Theo said he’s a she and needed more weight.  Ok, whatever.  Got more weight on… he…[Read more]

Here are a couple pics from today and a shot of the space. Ruby laid down and pretty much stuck her bum in Max’s face at one point, haha.

A little bit of sleep in the eyes now and then is normal. I would only be worried if you notice a continuous/runny discharge or if the fur under the eye is wet.

Most essential oils are not considered safe to use around cats or rabbits.

Yes, if eating a cecotrope, he should come up pretty quick and he will be chewing something in his mouth. If he’s messing with the sutures, then he would be hunched over and obsessively licking down there.

Oh wow, well I think at least Max would try and jump off 🙂 I do have the ottoman on the table so they don’t jump out which works.

The dynamic was a little off today, because Ruby growled and chased early on. I know it’s bad but I’ve let her hump his head some lately in desperation ( he has never been aggressive towards her except those couple…[Read more]

I did a ton of forum lurking and research, so was pretty prepared, but finding a good vet took a lot more work than I thought, I though my old vet for my cat could do it. I did find someone before any emergency, but it’s about 45 minute drive away. So good on you on doing that research first! Oh and photos when you get settled!

I do too, and I hear they don’t get enough love as people find them creepy 🙁  I have a fiend who is in the foster system, I was trying to convince her to try and get her as she lives next door and it be super easy to do dates.

yeah I really didn’t think finding another bun would be the challenge! Even the local bunny rescue doesn’t seem to have…[Read more]

hah! You might inquire about doing “foster to adopt” for bonding. They may not go for it, but since they already have a foster program they might.

In any case, I think just doing some dates and not rushing it is a good strategy.

I do love REW (red-eyed-white) buns though, if that wasn’t obvious!

the bad match bun has had I believe two unsuccessful bonding, so I think the shelter is looking for her to be a single bunny or at least with someone who could handle two separate buns if it didn’t work out. There aren’t really that many boy bunnies at the shelter right now either, 3 bunnies total and they are all in foster homes. The one I asked…[Read more]

I remember Sirius&Luna had good luck bonding ON her dining room table. I tried it once and my buns just tried to jump off (and one almost succeeded), so that was a no-go for me, but might be worth trying!

Usually there is a bit more fixation with wound licking while cecotrope eating and grooming are more goal oriented, thus take less time.

Here are some good recommendations for post-neuter care: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Spaying_and_neutering_rabbits#Care

Glad to read things seem to have gone smoothly!

Hmm, if he’s licking down more than what seems normal he’s probably licking his sutures. Was he given any pain meds?

Also, usually after buns grab a cecotrope they will chew afterward.

PS. I’m going to move this thread to Q&A so it will get more responses!

Hello all, Max was neutered today. This may be a silly question but… how do I tell if he is licking his stitches, grooming himself or eating cecotropes?  I want to stop him licking too much but I can’t tell when he is doing it. Does the head go in the front when they are licking as opposed to the back…?  I don’t know if that makes sense. Side note…[Read more]
