Hello all, Max was neutered today. This may be a silly question but… how do I tell if he is licking his stitches, grooming himself or eating cecotropes?  I want to stop him licking too much but I can’t tell when he is doing it. Does the head go in the front when they are licking as opposed to the back…?  I don’t know if that makes sense. Side note, I recently adopted Max; he is 8 mos & doesn’t like being picked up at all. Thank you in advance!!

Hmm, if he’s licking down more than what seems normal he’s probably licking his sutures. Was he given any pain meds?

Also, usually after buns grab a cecotrope they will chew afterward.

PS. I’m going to move this thread to Q&A so it will get more responses!

Usually there is a bit more fixation with wound licking while cecotrope eating and grooming are more goal oriented, thus take less time.

Here are some good recommendations for post-neuter care: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Spaying_and_neutering_rabbits#Care

Glad to read things seem to have gone smoothly!

Yes, if eating a cecotrope, he should come up pretty quick and he will be chewing something in his mouth. If he’s messing with the sutures, then he would be hunched over and obsessively licking down there.
