We have a female holland lop rabbit around 6 years old, free roam, she has always been litter trained, and still uses her litter box. She always has kept herself very clean, just recently she has started peeing on herself.. took her to the vet and they prescribed an antibiotic (baytril) to clear up any infection or possible uti, as well as a pain…[Read more]

Females can dig a lot when they’re not spayed yet, like they’re making some kind of nest.
Or it may be that she doesn’t like the surface. Do you have anything on top of the pellets? Our bunnies always like a layer of hay: they even eat more from their box than from their hay rack.

True bloat is not at all the same as GI stasis or a gut slowdown. (I’m only mentioning this because when you’re seeking info online or speaking to your vet, it’s important). Here is a description of true bloat, which thankfully is a lot less common than GI slowdown/stasis: http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/GI_diseases/Mechanical_diseases/bloat.htm

Hoppy Easter! Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend whether you celebrate or not.
I am having a pretty mellow Easter.Β Between work and sick bun I just haven’t had time to do my usual celebrations.Β (Which is really just making food and painting eggs, and getting randoly dressed up), but eating chocolate Easter bunnies and watching W…[Read more]

Thanks, have most things on the list other than the prescription needed ones and stethoscope.
I have read in the case of bloat, you don’t want to give liquids as this will just exacerbatetheproblem… would this also include critical care? (I do have some on hand, but have yet to use it).
I should probably write up a list of questions for my vet as well.

Hoppy Easter!!
We had a lovely picnic lunch with my mum and her partner.
Now I’m on the couch indulging in my own Easter Tradition, eating a chocolate bunny while watching Watership Down 😁 Not to everyone’s taste I know but I watched it at Easter as a kid once and it’s just stuck, so now I watch it once a year π

Hey y’all!
Jumping Jack likes to dig in her litter box now, I guess. It started a week or two ago. She digs a bunch in there, then it gets kicked out into a HUGE pile in the front under the hole. It’s also loud, I use Feline Pine which is super loud when dug in, as it turns out
Has anybody had to deal with this before? How do you break the habit?

Are you able to order from somewhere like Amazon?

Yes, definitely easier to move first. Less stressful for you and your future bunnies. Finding time when working long hours can be difficult. It helps if the bunnies are kept in an area where you naturally spend time. That way you can read or watch TV or whatever and interact with them at the same time.

Oh gods, that’s awful! That tradition needs to be stopped ASAP.
I stumbled onto some awful info from the Make Mine Chocolate campaign: 95% of all Easter bunny gifts don’t make it to their 1st birthday! π₯

Is it some kind of event that’s giving out rabbits? Spreading awareness through social media can help to put a stop to these practices.

It is very unusual looking, but I agree it probably isn’t the cause of the current problem. Since she is much better after the molar trim, I would say that is probably the cause. As to what these deposits are, I don’t know. The only thing I can think of is some kind of mineral deficiency or damage to the enamel.

There are motility drugs such as cisapride, though in my personal (and non-medical) view, itβs more important to keep some supplies of critical care and feeding syringes in such cases to keep the digestive system going.

Miu had her 2nd possible bloat last night due to molting, and Dorian had one not that long ago. I admittedly didn’t quite stay as on top of brushing last week as I have had to return to office and she got maybe a quick little daily once over, rather than a longer session or several spread throughout the day. (I gave her a good brush, yesterday and…[Read more]
