Thank you. I think hearing from you I am just going to live with the smell, which seems to be her own pee mixed in with motor oil. I’ll slowly start to use a comb and groom her as we progress., after she’s settled in.

Thank you. She has started grooming herself and today I took a comb and just introduced her to it. I think I’m going to let the rest go. The vet offered to groom her while she’s sedated for spay on May 16. I don’t want to risk anything else. Thank you. I am too inexperienced and need to just focus on building trust. I appreciate your response.

It’s possible that it could be something in their diet they are sensitive to. Since they aren’t related though, it seems odd that they would both be having the same issue. As Dana mentioned, are you sure it is both of them?
Xeno 450 is ivermectin. Adverse reactions are not common in rabbits. When they do occur, they are neurological.

After one of my past buns passed I opted to foster for a while before getting another bun. It was really nice because I wasn’t ready to adopt again right away, but having the other buns around did help a lot. Do whatever feels right to you though!

Hmm, are the cecotropes they are leaving behind otherwise normal looking? I’m wondering if they are just producing extra, but otherwise normal, cecotropes, or if they are having some cecal dybiosis.
How long did you have them on a hay-only diet? Sometimes it can take several weeks to work. And do they get any other treats, veggies, fruit,…[Read more]

Yes, IF you do resort to a bath, I would not use Dawn soap. That would be way too harsh.

Thanks everyone. She definitely got dealt a poor hand when it came to her health, but I feel like we won the lottery with her happy behaviour.
I’ve been going through all the videos and photos we’ve taken of her over the years (it turns out that we took A LOT. Like, in the thousands, haha) and being both happy and sad.
I miss her a lot.
But n…[Read more]

Both my rabbits have had problem with having a messy behind for a while now. It seems they are leaving their cecotropes as I am frequently finding these on the floor.
I have 2 mini lops, they are 5 years & 10 months old and both female. They have both been neutered.
It seemed to start after they had been to the vets for a skin problem they…[Read more]

I’m so sorry for your loss, it sounds like she had so much going on and it finally just became too much for her. 🙁
Buns always seem to get sick over holiday weekends! You did a wonderful job caring for Topper, I’m sorry for the people around you that just don’t get it. We get it!

I agree that cornstarch is a better option to start with, but is there any visible oil? or is it mostly a smell? I worry that rinsing the dawn off would be hard, and then ingesting the soap might cause more problems.

I smeared banana on his paw, Luna licked it off, lol.
He’s pretty fussy with food, he’s never been one to eat from my hand and usually only eats once food is on the ground. He won’t take a treat after he’s back on the ground, he’d rather sulk. I always intended to syringe train him with water but obviously I never got around to it. Not helpful…[Read more]

It’s great that you’re vigilant, especially since this is a new rabbit!

Luckily both those meds are sweet-tasting but I realise Apollo isn’t Luna who would take them willingly.
I think my approach with him would still be to train him to take syringe without you having to handle him. Maybe do a few practices with just water? You’ll have to be annoying toward him but weigh up if that stress is greater or less than how…[Read more]

I’m sorry for you loss. It sounds like you cared for Guppy very much. As the others said, she was very young and young bunnies can be so fragile.

Clara was beautiful! I agree, you did a very good job with her and you got her to 12. That’s a good, long life for a bunny.

Sometimes the only noticeable symptom is “dribbling” urine.

Do you know what the oil was? In general, rabbits should not be bathed. There are some exceptions though. A butt bath may be warranted if the rabbit has poopy butt. A bath may also be warranted if something dangerous got onto them somehow. This is why I’m asking what the oil is. If it isn’t anything toxic, you could try a dry bath first. You…[Read more]
