Bam replied to the topic Rabbit diet! in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 3 months ago
If a bun eats a lot of fresh veg and grass, the poop will be dark. The same happens to wild rabbit poop when spring comes with new grass.
How old is your bun? Buns under 6 months (longer for big breeds) need more protein and calcium than adult buns, because they’re growing. So for very young buns, pellets are probably the best way to ensure that…[Read more]

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your hedgehog, they are such gorgeous little animals.
It is good to hear though that Tater is back home with you and doing well, having room to move at home should also help shed the extra weight gained.

I think if you’re removing pellets completely you need to be feeding a wide variety of leafy greens to make up nutritional content. It sounds like he’s a good hay eater, it’s possible that too much fresh wheat grass is causing smaller damp poops. Fresh grass is great, but if you’re feeding it while still young it is very nutrient dense and could…[Read more]

Azerane replied to the topic Teeth grinding or chattering? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 3 months ago
I’ve also heard grinding/chattering across a room. Usually even if that’s loud, you can still tell the difference between loud tooth purring and unhappy grinding. An unhappy grinding is a loud distinct crunching.

Azerane replied to the topic Rabbit Sitting in Unusual Place in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 3 months ago
You’re right to be worried about different sitting positions though. My rabbits only sit in their litter tray to eat hay, poo, pee and then leave. Unless they are feeling unwell then they may loaf in there for a while. Sometimes it just seems to be something mild and they’re normal otherwise and continue eating and toileting normally. But when I…[Read more]

I noticed the humping started before this GI episode.
He doesnt eat any parsley or dandelion. Just lettuce, dill and cilantro.
I read about some rabbit treatments on a different website, but I wouldn’t want to put him on anything without knowing first as everything has side effects. Not sure if this vet will have any ideas on what to do next. We…[Read more]

My rabbit is pretty difficult as well. We are also working on free roaming but I’ve come to the realization that it’s okay to just have a large x-pen. Which keeps him from being super destructive and peeing all over the place! I would suggest trying some more permanent enrichment such as baby stacking cups or cheap enrichment like card board box…[Read more]

Hello! Does anyone have any advice on rabbit diets? I have my bun on a pellet free diet with a variety of veggies. He is given Kaytee Timothy hay. His poop is almost black in color is a little small and damp. It’s been like this for a while. He eats alright and acts normal (he still zoomies and binkys laps around our room). He eats two large hay r…[Read more]

He already has baby stacking cups, baby keys, and a cat treat dispenser! I’m going to keep him a teach-and-treat board soon!

I try to get him out as much as I can. Today he was out for around 5 hours but it really depends on the day. Sometimes if I’m not in my room a lot he tends to get out less. An hour is more of a minimum. I hope to eventually free roam him full time but right now he doesn’t know boundaries and I can’t risk him peeing on carpet because we’re moving…[Read more]

Ditto what the others said.
RE: Enrichment – Hard plastic baby keys and stacking cups are very popular. You can also try puzzle toys. Even ones intended for dogs can work as long as a bunny is physically capable of doing the puzzle (e.g. flip something with their nose or pull a drawer out with their mouth). Treat balls for cats are good too, just…[Read more]

Yes, someone got sore hock booties off of Etsy. I can’t remember what the shop was called.

Thank you so much for the update! It really does help other members to know how everything went!
And credit to @Moonlightbunny66 for the 1 mL syringe tip! It seems like it wouldn’t be efficient but it really works so well!
I also tend to agree with you that once you have initiated treatment with the vet, it’s very important to minimize stress…[Read more]

It sounds like he has a nice life. 🙂 Although, only 1 hour out of his hutch each day is ideal. I would try to give at least 2 hours (1 morning and evening), and preferably at least 4 total. I might have misread your post though!
As Bam said, neutering is males is mostly done for behavioral reasons and to allow bonding. Whether or not to bond is…[Read more]

Thanks for the advice! I’m not too worried about the aggression towards the cats. (They are only temporarily in my room) I just want to do what’s best for him and will make him the happiest!
