A neutral space to live in over a weekend, or just a couple hours a day? The problem is both of my buns live outside in a hutch, my parents won’t let them sleep inside overnight. They also think that the buns are perfectly happy with each other and definitely don’t need to be rebonded in a neutral area!:(

Thank you, this made me feel better. I haven’t noticed any more sneezing and he is still eating and drinking normally. There is still a small amount of watery discharge right under his nose, but it looks just like condensation from his breathing. I was becoming less concerned, but then he woke me up tonight at 1:30 am by thumping. He was in the c…[Read more]

I just wanted to let everyone know flopsy sadly passed a couple years ago, I now have another bunny named Winnie, she was given away to a zoo by people that didn’t want her. She had babies at the zoo and then eventually made her way to me. She is quite scared and a bit mean if you do something she doesn’t like but she is definitely getting more…[Read more]

Thank you all for the information. I made a snap judgment with my gut last night and gave him both.

He’s doing much, much better! He’s pooping plenty, he ate greens, he’s eaten hay. He no longer looks like he’s in pain, either. I had to stay with him 11 hours straight, but it was worth it.

Out of curiosity, when this happens, is it GI Statis, or…[Read more]

Bonding is still ongoing, and they still don’t agree on who’s boss. But after each bout of chasing and mounting they come together for a snuggle. The love is there, but they need to work on the details a bit more.

This is one of my new favourite pics of them:

I had a bunny that was very stressed by fireworks. He would pull his fur out when stressed and he would have bald spots after the 4th of July. The only thing that would calm him was putting him in the bed with me while I watched TV. If your bunny doesn’t like to lay on the bed or couch with you, then you could do as Dana suggested. You can sit…[Read more]

Camomile flowers are very palatable. Most rabbits seem to like them. You could also make “tea” by brewing camomile in hot water and letting it cool. Don’t use tea for humans since it can contain other ingredients.

You could ask your vet about melatonin. I was able to find 1mg tablets at a health food store, but then I had to make it into a paste.…[Read more]

Roxie replied to the topic Sand safe for bunnies? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 3 months ago

Hello! Great question. Sand is definitely a bad idea because it’s a health risk. They could ingest it or breath it in as you said. It could get in their eyes or ears and possibly cause an infection. The box part of the sandbox is a good idea but instead of sand, you can fill it with shreds of plain, untreated paper or a bunch of rabbit safe toys a…[Read more]

Hi! My bunny ADORES digging, so I’ve thought about getting him a little sandbox to play in, so he doesn’t dig on carpets and blankets. However, I’m not sure if sand is dangerous, since it could possibly damage their respiratory system. He’s also a long-haired breed, so is the sand damaging to his hair? So, should I do it? Any tips?

Hi everyone, thanks for responding and for the concern! I ended up taking her to an emergency vet hospital. She’s back home and doing better. Still not drinking water which I’ll call about. She may still have subcutaneous fluids in her system.

the litter box is at one corner of the pen, and he usually pees at the other 3 corners, or right beside the litter box. he used to pee at the 2 farthest corners from the litter box which are soft surfaces, but now he’s peeing nearer to the litter box which are hard surfaces.

i also realise that after i clean the litter box he will mark i…[Read more]

Yaay for poop! The poopies look good, a little bit dry and and of varying size and shape, which indicates a slight gut slowdown. It could very well be that the trip to the vet and the exam with the vet feeling his tummy set things in motion. And in any case, it always feels a huge lot better if you can have your bun seen, although in the case of…[Read more]

    That’s great he pooped!

Since he pooped, he’s nibbling a bit on his own, and the vet didn’t detect a blockage I would syringe feed if he isn’t eating normally. You can just keep offering the things he is nibbling on. A little critical care shouldn’t hurt though. I often start with a really small amount to see if it perks them up at all (like just…[Read more]

    Thanks for the replies!

I took him to the ER to be on the safe side as ever since loosing Bella because we treated at home thinking her symptoms were not too bad, I have super paranoid about not ruling out critical issues.

The vet was OK but I could tell he wasn’t too familiar with rabbits. Never the less he seems to think there is no GI block…[Read more]

I’m sorry to hear that! Poor little guy 😞

Whatever you end up trying just make sure it’s introduced in small amounts and safe for rabbit consumption (fact check with at least 2 or 3 valid sources). Some websites will say one thing is safe for rabbits while another say it’s not. Generally if somebody says it isn’t then it’s like that for a reason.…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Re-bonding 2 girls after emergency vet visit fallout in the forum BONDING 4 years, 3 months ago

Most vets (even the really good ones) don’t know much about bonding, it’s surprisingly common!

When one bun is scared of the other one, it is important to take the bonding process slowly. Sometimes doing marathon-style sessions too early can cause the fearful bun to “shut down” and trick you into thinking they are bonded, which can lead to a bond…[Read more]

FYI I’ve always given metacam without famotidine, it’s pretty rare to be prescribed with something else in the USA. Not saying it’s great to do so, but the benefit for short term usage can outweigh a long term effect of being harder on the stomach.

I would give a big pile of wet greens that he’s eating. Dehydration can be a huge factor in in gut…[Read more]

If you’re only hearing it really close up then it’s probably not something to worry about. Some quiet gurgles are normal when digesting.
