Ellie from The Netherlands replied to the topic Yesterdays news is discontinued, need new litter in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 2 months ago

    You’re welcome ^_^

We have quite a thick layer of hay in the boxes and our buns tend to poop in one corner. The poop doesn’t stick when they lay down in it. We also have the hay racks above their boxes, so they add small layers of hay to the box while they nibble.

Sometimes we scoop the poop out with an old spoon, but most of the time we leave…[Read more]

Thank you! I was going to buy one awhile ago but completely forgot about it. I’m not sure if I can find one to fit dahlias litterbox size but if that’s the case I’ll just order one from here. What do you do about the poops on top?

If she likes to lounge there, how about putting a plastic grid in the box? Top it with hay so she can relax, and the pee will drop through the holes onto the pellets (or whichever litter you’re going to choose).

does anybody know where to get paper pellet litter like yesterdays news? I had access to it for awhile up until now and I found out it was discontinued in April?? I tried looking for alternatives but most of them have baking soda and when I tried baking soda paper pellets with dahlia she became gassy and I’d rather not risk further use.

    I would u…[Read more]

Ellie from The Netherlands replied to the topic Urinary issue or marking? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 2 months ago

Yes, that does sound like dribbling instead of marking. It’s really good that you called the vet, I hope that she’ll be well soon!

    About marking:

We’ve got a girl who’s spayed, but marking again now her brother is ill. Rabbits can do that when they’re upset or when they want to challenge for dominance.

She leaves big puddles and small heaps…[Read more]

Oy, get that camera out of my face! Taking pictures of my turds for Pete’s sake, you humans are all barking mad! She’s crazy, crazy I tell you! Komple’t meshuggah! And I live with this woman!

Ladies and gentlemen: we have poop! 🥳

Ellie from The Netherlands replied to the topic Is my bunny wild? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 2 months ago

Nope, he’d only be a dwarf if he were born in a family of Flemish Giants 😉 He’s going to become quite a big boy (or girl), looking at the size of the ears. Rabbits are often mis-sexed when they’re young because everything is still so small.

Beautiful colouring though, I think it’s called agouti.

Have you taken him to a vet yet for a basic intake…[Read more]

Not wild — you can look here on guidance for identifying wild rabbits: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Wild_rabbits#Is_the_rabbit_I_found_wild_or_domestic?

The ears are thicker and the head is not the typical wedge — those are the obvious indicators to me that you just have a domestic rabbit with the agouti fur pattern often associated with wild…[Read more]

At long last, the Filavac vaccine for RHDV2 has been approved for use in Australia. It’s been approved under an emergency directive (7 years too late for the emergency, lol) but it’s approved until 2024, I’m guessing it allows time for proper approval.

Here’s the website for the details. Going to have to call my vet and go on a waiting list…[Read more]

Thank you both so much!  I’ve never tried a squeegee before, but I will now!  It seems like it wouldn’t do a ton with Sheepette since it’s so fluffy, but certainly worth a try!

Dahlia, to your question, I’m now trying the layers suggested on disabledrabbits(dot)com, which is a rug, then a pee pad, then a towel, then something like Sheepette on t…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Lick then Dig at me in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 2 months ago

I’m not sure anyone knows why rabbits do this, but they very often do. It is a friendly thing though, even if it can hurt when they dig on you. Sometimes they bite your clothes too, and they can make holes in them, so it’s wise not to wear your best clothes when you hang out with your bun.

It could be that human clothes are “unnatural” for…[Read more]

I read the link, and the machine they’re talking about isnt really cold laser, it’s infrared light.

My mum is a physiotherapist and has treated many patients incl dogs with cold laser. I asked her about infrared light therapy. She says it’s a waste of money.

Good cold laser machines are very, very expensive.

I dont think he is wild, but I dont think he looks like a Nethie either.

Wild rabbits are a lot more skittish than domesticated rabbits. They’re very difficult to handle because of this.

I got him from a fodder store. The lady at the store said someone dropped him and his brother off. He looked like he had been neglected as his feet and bottom were badly matted. The person that dropped him at the store said he was 6 months old and a dwarf Netherland bunny. We took him in to care for him but I’m worried that he might be w…[Read more]
