As long as she is eating some, the nutrient-dense diet of a young rabbit can absolutely lead to a (healthy) production of excess cecotropes where the rabbit does not actually need to eat every single one of them. It becomes an issue with the production is so excessive that you get poopy butt: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Rabbit_poop#Poopy_butt

Food puzzle toys are great! Don’t be afraid to experiment with ones meant for other animals (dogs). Hard plastic is fine and the ones made for dogs are more challenging. You just need to find ones that have things that a rabbit can physically do.

The BinkyBunny store sells litter screens (availability may be limited, but it can give you an idea).

A DIY option is using plastic knitting mesh/canvas and cutting it to fit.
Of note, sometimes the high-sided litterboxes can encourage some rabbits to dig because it creates essentially a funnel of endless digging — you could try removing the…[Read more]

Got Luna a new litter box. I added carefresh for the bottom and hay in the back. She keeps digging at the carefresh. So I’m looking at getting a screen for her. Any suggestions.

This isn’t unusual for a young bunny on a young bunny diet. Will she eat grass hay? Perhaps it’s time to start transitioning away from the alfalfa hay. She can still get young bunny pellets for now. If she is a dwarf breed, you will want to transition to an adult pellet when she is around 6 months or so (whenever she stops growing).

Hello, I’ve been fostering a 4-month old white dwarf lionhead rabbit for about 2 months now, and recently she has not been eating any of her cecotropes. Yesterday afternoon, I found 2 uneaten cecotropes lying around her x-pen (not stuck to her bum) and would not eat them when I offered them to her. This morning, she has produced 2 cecotropes and…[Read more]

Hey everyone! My bunny had a bit of soft stool this morning, but I doubt that it was related to the antibiotics that I am giving my cat. I have been washing my hands after each time that I give her antibiotics (twice per day), so hopefully it is totally unrelated

Beds often has a lot of the human’s scent on them. And they’re soft and comfy and elevated above floor level, so the bun gets a good view of the surroundings. My guess is they feel safe and comfortable on beds. It’s very cute, unless they use the bed as their toilet!

I love clicker training! I was working with my cat Toby for a while and he learned to “target” really quickly.

Ok this is helpful! That screen (especially the white one in the gray box) looks like it could be painful on their feet. I would try using boxes with no screen for now, and just a layer of carefresh. Add a fluffy layer of hay directly on top. There is a bit of an art form to making a bun look enticing enough for the bun to jump in.

    If you end up…[Read more]

This is currently what the set up is. I am running out of litter, so I definitely will try the carefresh. Should I put the wood litter underneath the carefresh or only the carefresh?

Thumper and Bloo are 100% bonded. They are basically glued to each other! Where one goes, the other follows. I don’t think it’s a territorial issue – maybe it is?…[Read more]
