Yes, I would leave it if the quick were to become exposed when removed. Let the quick heal over first. Oftentimes, the piece will break off on it’s own and the quick will have healed over enough that it isn’t painful at that point.

Agreed that if it is not in quick territory, you can just clip it off so it’s not a snagging hazard. Otherwise, keep an eye on it until it’s in clipping range!

I have a rex rabbit whose very dense but short fur wont stick to any brush or comb. I use a sticky paper lint roller on her. I first ruffle her fur with my hands (which she actually seems to like), so as to get as much hair as possible to come loose. She doesnt seem to mind the lint roller.

I’ve used this method on other buns as well, but I dont…[Read more]

It’s common for rabbits to chew and burrow, but it’s important to protect your furniture. Here are some steps you can take to redirect Dusty’s behavior:

    1. Provide plenty of chewing toys: Give Dusty plenty of things to chew on, such as willow baskets, cardboard boxes, and wooden chew toys.
    2. Block access to couch: Try putting a physical barrier,…

Rabbits may mark their territory when they’re introduced to new surroundings or changes in their environment. It’s possible that your rabbit is feeling stressed or uncertain about the new enclosure, leading to the behavior. Additionally, rabbits can also develop litter box habits and may need time to adjust to the new boxes. Here are some tips…[Read more]

It’s possible that the neutering could have affected his hormones, but it’s also possible that he is just being playful or testing his boundaries. Some rabbits can be more active and destructive when they are young. It’s important to provide plenty of toys, exercise, and mental stimulation to help keep rabbits entertained and prevent destructive…[Read more]

If there is a partially attached piece of nail you could cut it off, but it might bleed. It will eventually fall off, or the bun will remove it himself.

Hey! This afternoon I was checking my new bunny’s nails today, and I noticed one partially broken off. It’s pretty far past the quick, but the broken section is still very much attached. I was just wondering if I should clip it or let it be. He isn’t limping or anything, and it doesn’t look super bad, it just doesn’t look comfortable. Thanks for the help!

Aww! Look at her! She’s definitely growing. It’s understandable that she would be focusing on pellets right now. As long as she is eating some hay, then I think you will be OK later on down the road. She should make the transition naturally when it comes time to reduce her pellets.

Keeping things smelling the same can also help. If moving to a new area or changing the setup, don’t wash anything or change the litter box initially. That way, everything still smells like it’s her territory.

It can be tough, but keep in mind that care tasks like medication administration, nail trimming, and grooming are things that take up generally less than an hour within a 24hr day and do not happen often, so you have a LOT of time outside those events. As someone who had a rabbit who would literally wheeze outloud due to panic, I can tell you that…[Read more]

The new environment can definitely cause marking in even the most litterbox adherent rabbits, so overtime as it becomes less new and also as you can observe where she likes to go, you can make adjustments accordingly to increase litterbox adherence.

I just pluck instead of trying to brush one of my buns Dorian. He seems to have very sensitive skin and he hated being brushed/combed. He however loves being pet so I just sit next to him and pluck the loose hair out. Honestly I think I get more fur than with the comb, and I can do the sessions for longer. That said my other little bun Miu does…[Read more]

thanks. I will just wait until after his check up. I am going to just have his 1 month follow-up appointment be with his regular vet and she has no issues with Miu coming along. She actually has owned bunnies and understands bonded pairs. The emergency vet though I think very capable didn’t seem like they did, and were very opposed to her coming…[Read more]

Hmmm, how long ago did you move her to the new enclosure? A little marking is common when a bun moves to a new place or things get shuffled around, but usually it subsides in a couple weeks or so.
