Hi everyone. Tonight before I went to bed, I saw a pile of something under my bed. I found that a piece of my comforter was hanging down from my bed and my bunny had chewed a hole in the comforter and pulled out a large chunk of the stuffing fibers. It looked like some was missing, so I’m sure he probably ingested some. He is free roam in my r…[Read more]

If you have a large freezer, then yes. The hay would need to be super dry though.

LBJ10 replied to the topic Vet wants to use ciprofloxacin in rabbit’s nose? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 9 months ago
Yes, a nebulizer is generally considered safe. There are others on the forum that have used them for their bunnies.
Was he being treated for EC otherwise? What were the antibiotic drops for exactly? Did the vet think he had a secondary infection? Antibiotics aren’t going to do anything for cataracts. There are drops that are used for dogs…[Read more]

hahah I’m the queen of foster fails, so I get that. I think if he has a stuffy and can see the other buns, he will be just fine, especially if you can spend some time with him each day.

Hay is the absolute best pre-biotic for buns. Pre-biotics is food for the desireable gut microbes. Its important for humans, but its way more important for buns. Humans break down food with the aid of various enzymes as well as microbes, rabbits are pretty much totally reliant on microbes.

Thank you, I’m trying not to be hard on myself. I could have put them in smaller areas and refereed them, and kept trying other things, but my gut was saying it’s not worth the added stress. I do think Maxwell and Ruby have a difficult bond for a third to enter into due to their super closeness, and Maxwell is generally difficult, lol.. they may…[Read more]

That’s really so hard, but don’t beat yourself up. I tend to focus on the trio success stories in my mind, but I think the reality is that trios are very hard and far from guaranteed to work. I think especially since you had a tougher bond with Ruby and Maxwell it might just be a very difficult combo of personalities.
Snoopy will be ok, perhaps…[Read more]

Yes, sometimes Snoopy nips first, so of course that just seems to set things back farther.
So, Maxwell somehow got another chunk of fur from Snoopy’s nose one night thru the fence. It’s not bad by itself but combined with the rest he has a lot of bald area on his face now 🙁 That said, even though I’m sad for Snoopy living alone, I think I’m g…[Read more]

I’m so sorry. 🙁
Having just had to make these decisions for 2 pets, I know it is so so hard, but know you are making the choice out of love.
I hope you can give him lots of snuggles and bananas. <3

I agree that lots of hay is the best thing for helping the gut microbiome to establish. A variety of different grass hays is good. There are also a number of rabbit probiotics out there, but the jury is out on whether they help or not.
If you have access to a healthy rabbit that is known to be parasite-free, you can also try sprinkling crushed up…[Read more]

Back again with an update;
thankfully Wolf’s fur is already starting to grow back in the area affected by flystrike, and the scab at the base of his tail is now starting to fall off.
his mobility has also drastically improved; we’re at 80% now I would say. It’s just the one leg in particular that is a bit weaker but he gets around just fine.…[Read more]

My recommendation is keep the diet basic, so majority hay with the appropriate amount of good quality pellets and then over time, you can try incorporating veggies a little at a time. If it’s hard to find agreeable veggies, it’s not too big of a deal since pellets provide the nutrition needed. Veggies are just a nice add on for stimulation.
