Close to correct — the reason for 1mo post spay/neuter is actually to allow time for their hormones to regulate themselves after those surgeries. Active hormones are the big obstacle in terms of a stable bond, in addition to general personality compatibility.
That being said, a neutered male can still impregnate an intact female, some say up to…[Read more]

Thank you so much for the reply! So, if I am understanding correctly:
Even though the female would not be able to get pregnant until at least 3 months old, you would still recommend keeping them separate due to potential fighting, correct? Then, after the surgeries, keeping them separated for at least another month due to there still being a…[Read more]

You need to keep them separated and it will be a minimum of 4-5mo at least until you can try and bond them. Females generally cannot be spayed until 5-6mo, and both rabbits should be at least 1mo post-spay/neuter before they are ideal candidates for bonding.
Keeping them together runs the risk of pregnancy and also the “baby bond” phenomena,…[Read more]

Hello!
Unfortunately my elderly rabbit passed away a few days ago from a chronic case of the snuffles and I have been devastated ever since. I am now looking at taking in a male and female sibling pair of Holland lops. However, I have never had more than one rabbit at a time before so I’m a bit unsure how to go about this. I obviously want to get…[Read more]

I don’t but I think people have used newborn diapers for buns for short periods?

Not eating as much with more selectivity but with no other real symptoms is a huge indicator for a dental issue. Lops are prone to dental issues, and around middle age buns can have some bone density shifts that can cause molar alignment to shift a little. Has he had a deep oral exam? At just a normal check up the vet can’t really see the back…[Read more]

Thank you for your response and feedback! 🙂
The hay seems pretty fresh and is a mix of soft and rough. I’ve noticed Binky eating a bit more of it over the last couple of days which is promising although Patch seems less keen. I’ll try orchard though to see if they like that more!
I’ve been tested them out with veggies since they were a…[Read more]

Currently, he isn’t squinting and has no cataract, but I am most definitely taking him to a vet.

Anyone have, or know where I can find, a diaper template to cut from a pee pad? If it matters, he’s older, medical needy, 2.5lbs, but highly active when well. Just needs to stay on long enough for some free roam/exercise.

White rabbit, white rabbit, white rabbit! (A thing to say for luck the first of every month!)
We had lovely weather here today, after 24 hours of pouring rain. The buns are molting like there’s no tomorrow! Here’s a picture of the normally v beautiful Snöa:

I had a mold incident with the hay I recently bought from a local farmer, so I had to…[Read more]

Happy September 1st everyone! It’s hot in NY right now and it’s only going to get hotter, according to the news. Anyway! I got something exciting to share! I was sitting on the floor with Thumper and Blossom last night and Thumper went in to a bunny loaf and fell asleep! And today, when I was giving Blossom her water she partly climbed on me, she…[Read more]

Considering he is actively squinting that eye, I would have this properly assessed by a vet. They often need to use specialized scopes and a dying agent to examine an eye. It’s possible there is an internal injury going on, as rabbits who are blind do not necessarily squint their eye lids at all– they just keep the eye open and you see the very…[Read more]

Greetings.
We’ve had an awesome little Holland Lop (named Boozhy) since he was a few months old. He’s about 6.5 years old now, and he’s been very healthy and happy the whole time with the exception of some bouts of gas bloat and/or GI stasis occasionally. A few months ago, he became rather disinterested in eating like he used to. He seems qu…[Read more]
