I bet that’s it! They are prey animals so being on the jumpy side is a survival instinct, the fact he comes back means he thinks you are safe 🙂 .

Perhaps he’s feeling territorial now that this new home feels like it might be “permanent”. You said you were apartment hopping. I wonder if he never really settled into any of these places.

I agree with Dana. Caution should be used if grooming with a furminator brush. Bald patches from over grooming should grow back just fine. Dana gave some good suggestions for brushes. Hopefully you can find something that works.

The groom zoom is a softish rubber groomer. It makes kind of a mess but seems to work pretty well at loosening undercoat fur. If you google it you will find some pictures. The fur buster comb also works well but you still need to be careful with delicate bunny skin.

Even though he is neutered I believe this is territorial marking. Although he has been in the new place before, and territorial behavior is significantly reduced with neutering, it still occurs with some rabbits. I kinda think Bonnie and Myra almost look like photo-negatives of each other. Except the ears!  You can’t see her feet in the pic but Bonnie has light feet, with one of her front feet totally white.

I would guess the bald patch is where a canula was inserted for the surgery. Many vets prefer to place a line into the bun’s ear in case something happens during anaesthesia. My bun had to have blood drawn from his ear for a blood test, it resulted in a bald patch. The hair grew back just fine.

The furminator is a pretty harsh grooming tool, they have all kinds of warnings about not going over the same area twice, etc. The bald patches should grow back but keep an eye on the broken skin to make sure it heals without issues.

Objectively, if they are all housed separately and cannot touch each other (gaps in between pens), then it is safe. You will want to observe how each rabbit reacts though. None of them may care or one/some/all of them may become stressed due to the new rabbit being there.
