Pine shavings are not safe for bunnies. The aromatic oils in the pine can be hard of the bun’s respiratory systems and can cause problems if the bun ever needs to go under anesthesia (something to do with the liver…). Aspen shavings are safe though, but are more expensive.

Pine pellets (on the other hand) are safe because they have been heat…[Read more]

Lights at night are not really what rabbits are interested in. If there is extra light  they can see predators better, but they also become more visible themselves to predators, which is part of the reason why rabbits are crepuscular (crepuscular means most active at dusk and dawn).

It’s very sweet of you though, to want to help the wild buns!…[Read more]

    Hi GregHouse81! 🙂

I don’t think you need to leave the lights on, rabbits have a very keen sense of smell and have very sharp hearing, so he would probably be able to sense a predator. 🙂

Agree with Hazel. I thought you were talking like a 6-7 month old bun 😂 most buns transition off alfalfa pellets and hay around 6 months.

She’s still very young, you don’t have to wean her off of it for another 2-3 months, or until she stops growing.

It’s alfalfa hay. She’s 3 months old now. I basically scatter a small handful of alfalfa hay among a giant clump of grass hay. I have a hay feeder but she picks and only eats the alfalfa and comes pawing for more. When I go back to check all the alfalfa is gone and a lot of the grass hay is still left.

    Aww, he loves you! 😀

You might have to put up with this for a while longer, it’s best leave them intact until they’re done growing (this applies especially to giant breeds, since they end up being so heavy). Flemmies keep growing until at least 9-12 months of age.

Is she getting Alfalfa hay or pellets? I’ve found that it’s way easier to wean them off of Alfalfa pellets than Alfalfa hay. How old is she?

You could slowly transition off of alfalfa by slowly mixing in a little bit of the alfalfa with the Timothy and orchard. This was she still gets a little, but you gradually lessen it till she doesn’t get any. If you don’t have any other small buns or pets that eat alfalfa I would get rid of it afterwards just so it’s not in the house torme…[Read more]

I am so sorry for you! 😥 She was obviously very loved and well cared for, but don’t blame yourself, horrible things can happen that are not your fault. We all do need time to grieve and have a few good cries, but certainly don’t grieve forever! Honor her spirit and all that she taught you, remember her fondly, not with a feeling of it being…[Read more]

I actually tried the banana in their first or second session, but Ruby was eating the fur off Elmer’s head to get it! I didn’t really want him going bald though he did seem to like it.

The last day and a half Elmer has done better grooming. He is a little stuck on her ears but that was good to see… also when he gets rough she will usually f…[Read more]

My young baby rabbit loves alfalfa, to the point where she will throw temper tantrums when we don’t give it to her.
We usually give her Timothy/orchard hay in unlimited amounts but even when there is a lot of hay she will still run to and paw at the door of the storeroom where we keep the alfalfa.

We feel like we need to wean her off eventually b…[Read more]

I put a different litter box in to her when I separated them. I’ll go out today to get the same one which is covered. She might prefer that. I have vinyl flooring under the shavings but she’s used to that. In the other part, it’s just outdoor slabs under them. Its a product called easibed I have down…more like wood chippings but I’m not sure…[Read more]

    Hi all,

I have a neighborhood cottontail that always comes into my backyard in the evenings. He gets in under the gate. It’s AZ, so I leave water out for the birds and rabbits that come by. He seems to love the water and loves laying on the grass. My question is, when he’s here at night, should I leave the outside lights on. They are pretty bri…[Read more]

Strange… I just get the eerie feeling someone is watching me. Like psychic bunny powers “You will pet me. You. Will. Pet. Me”.

I can’t seem to stop picking up cicada nymphs and putting them on the nearest tree. We can’t go for walks around the neighborhood without me keeping an eye on the sidewalk. I’m so weird… and yet, they are cute and…[Read more]
