  My young baby rabbit loves alfalfa, to the point where she will throw temper tantrums when we don’t give it to her.
  We usually give her Timothy/orchard hay in unlimited amounts but even when there is a lot of hay she will still run to and paw at the door of the storeroom where we keep the alfalfa.
  
  We feel like we need to wean her off eventually because she’s getting older. Any tips?

  You could slowly transition off of alfalfa by slowly mixing in a little bit of the alfalfa with the Timothy and orchard. This was she still gets a little, but you gradually lessen it till she doesn’t get any. If you don’t have any other small buns or pets that eat alfalfa I would get rid of it afterwards just so it’s not in the house tormenting her. Buns have a keen sense of smell.

  Is she getting Alfalfa hay or pellets? I’ve found that it’s way easier to wean them off of Alfalfa pellets than Alfalfa hay. How old is she?

  It’s alfalfa hay. She’s 3 months old now. I basically scatter a small handful of alfalfa hay among a giant clump of grass hay. I have a hay feeder but she picks and only eats the alfalfa and comes pawing for more. When I go back to check all the alfalfa is gone and a lot of the grass hay is still left.

  She’s still very young, you don’t have to wean her off of it for another 2-3 months, or until she stops growing.

  Agree with Hazel. I thought you were talking like a 6-7 month old bun 😂 most buns transition off alfalfa pellets and hay around 6 months.
