I don’t know of many diseases that hedgehogs and bunnies might share. I agree with Dana that the risk is likely very low. Even if they did happen to have something that could spread to a bunny, they would have to be in the same enclosure in order to spread it. I’m thinking ringworm as an example, but it certainly wouldn’t be the only one.…[Read more]

Hmmm I’m not sure, but a quick googling and scan of some hedgehog forums(!) looks like there isn’t much risk:

Even with guinea pigs and buns, there isn’t a terribly huge risk, you just don’t…[Read more]

Sorry for the click bait-y like title and also sorry if this doesn’t belong here. Does anyone know if hedgehogs and rabbits can get each other sick? I know rabbits have something that can get guinea pigs really sick and I know hedgehogs are a different species but still….I ask because my older sister and her boyfriend are coming up Dec 16th to…[Read more]

It’s a bit difficult to see on the picture, but if the skin is intact, it’s not sore hocks. But as you’re saying, it could develop into a sore hock, so it’s good you caught it!
If the skin is intact, you dont need to put anything on it, creams often makes it “worse” because you slwsys get some cream on the surrounding fur, and sticky fur is less…[Read more]

From the photos, this looks like a callus. It isn’t uncommon for rabbits to develop calluses. Nails can be a contributing factor, but the biggest culprit is flooring. The best way to tell if flooring is soft enough is to do the elbow test. Rub your elbow on it. If it feels like you’re going to get a rug burn, then it may be too abrasive for bunny.

Hi, I was wondering if this small spot is the beginning of a sore hock 🙁 i feel horrible because i think it was because i pushed off her nail trim, thinking that every 2 months was okay.I’ll have to go back to monthly vet trips now 😥 is there anything i can do for her foot? it’s only on one foot so far. i’m not sure if it warrants a vet v…[Read more]

Aww! Best of luck to you and your bun! And thanks for the input! It can be hard to get a rescue out of their shell I feel but it’s so rewarding when it happens!

It honestly sounds like you have done a great job with them! I think just continuing to spend as much time with them as you can, but not necessarily forcing interaction that whole time, can go a long way. Floor time is really good.
All buns have dif personalities, and some are happy with just a few head pats a day, and other want you to pet them…[Read more]

Hi all! I’m a novice rabbit owner of two free-roamers who I adopted from a shelter when they were both around a year old. I’ve had them for over a year and we have an overall good relationship, they’re comfortable enough with me and they have a good bond with eachother. It took a long time for especially one of them to let me touch him but now I…[Read more]

Awww that’s so hard, but thank you for rescuing him. Often the sweetest ones do get caught because they aren’t afraid of people… but it’s so sad to think of why they were abandoned in the first place (my Cooper sounds very similar to this bun).
I think you are right to not try to have 3 males in one house, that would be very challenging. I…[Read more]

I’ve been on here a while so felt like I could vent a little and you all will appreciate. I responded to a post on Nextdoor of a rabbit found outside. It was nearish my house. It sounded like they left it outside and it was a cold rainy day…. so without waiting for a response my friend and I go over to find it. Also was confusing because the…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Itchy ear in the forum BEHAVIOR 2 years, 4 months ago
Has this been checked out by a vet? Even though it’s intermittent I would still want to have a vet take a peek deeper in her ears to make sure there isn’t an infection or something stuck in there that’s bothering her. If she is a lop they can be prone to more ear issues and sometimes need their ears cleaned by a vet.

One of my buns does this! I honestly can’t figure it out, but I think if you pet him during/after you could be accidentally rewarding that behavior and encouraging it. I think it can be either an attention seeking behavior, or something to do with them trying to “groom” us (“what is all this STUFF on your fur??”- buns probably).
With my bun I try…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Upset stomach from azithromycin & what other med for snuffles now in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 4 months ago
I think this is best to discuss with your vet. Azithromycin is one of the better ones for stubborn infections but perhaps they can give you some other meds to help with the side effects?
