Okay so there’s a bun at the rescue my girl is from that has been in the rescue for 2 years! 😥 I wouldn’t do anything bonding related for probably another 2 months, but I’m considering fostering/adopting him, even if I don’t bond the two of them. Their personalities seem like they would go well together, which leaves bonding as a likely…[Read more]

What you’re describing is not common behavior following a spay, but it isn’t unheard of. Does she seem normal otherwise? Pooping OK? If she otherwise appears to be fine, I would say it is probably premature to take her to the vet. They can’t really do much for this. You just have to ride it out, which could take 6 to 8 weeks.

So the vet was able to get a sample? Was it thick pus (which is typical) or was it liquid? As Dface said, rabbit pus is very thick. Lancing it may remove what is superficially there near the surface, but it usually isn’t enough to clean things out completely. There is a high rate of recurrence, that’s why it is recommended that abscesses be…[Read more]

Trying not to count my chickens before they’re hatched over here but I didn’t want to take them to my sister’s because it’s raining so I did a private Ben and Clover date in the kitchen and it’s going well. No grooming yet today but she just finally kind of plopped down to relax and hasn’t tried to bite him. This territory isn’t completely neutral…[Read more]

Yes I agree, there’s still not much in the intestines due to her having eaten so comparatively little lately, so any poop she produces is great. If she keeps eating, there will be more poop, but it can take up to 2 weeks until the poop is back to normal after a bout like this.

At this point any poops at all are a good sign. She’s so lucky to have you! Keep her eating anything you can get her to take and I’m hoping for another update soon with more poops in it 🙂

Oh, I love this idea! 😀 It looks so comfy and cozy, definitally need pics of her in it! 😉 Unfortunately, my ladies chew and pee on fabric. So, it wouldn’t work so great here… 😥

    UPDATE ON PIPPIN

Shes still with us and at present munching on wet dandelions, I’m still very worried about her poop output as it’s still a very small amount and little tiny pieces I did however manage to break one into two so there must be some softness coming just wish she would do more. Her breathing seems different as if it’s not such hard…[Read more]

This is most certainly a conversation you will want to have with your vet, and possibly look around for another professional opinion if you can.

Unlike in other animals, rabbits create a very thick, viscous pus, so lancing it likely wont actually clean it out and the problem will recour. Another issue is that on the surface it looks small, but…[Read more]

Fenugreek is good, but should be fed in moderation as it’s actually used as an appetite stimulant in humans (and small animals),  and can help with weight gain in skinny rabbits.

I understand this is a very difficult situation. There are various quality of life assesment tools for pets that you can find if you google, I can’t recommend any one in particular.

It will of course still always be a judgement call.

If space is the issue maybe you should consider moving…? Like if that’s a deal breaker and he’s willing to move out over it maybe you guys can just move together to a different place? Keeping in mind that the bunnies will need a space of their own? But also maybe he should get over the stigma that bunny poop is gross? They have pretty dry poop…[Read more]

I’ve made one other post on my bunnies aggression, though we recently got her spay about 2 weeks ago. I’ve heard that they can have some crazy behavior so I just wanted to bring this up.

Molly has been very attention seeking with me as of late. Tonight while I was giving her the nightly pets she was acting very strange. Almost like she was having…[Read more]

Eating isn’t really optional, he gets hungry so he eats. I wouldn’t use that to gauge his happiness. Quality of life to me is determined by wether or not they engage in things around them in a positive way, show interest or even excitement. Then I weigh that against the negatives, like pain etc. In other words, are the more good moments than bad…[Read more]
