That might be an attempt to get water out. I’ve been told of studies that show rabbits drink less water out of a bottle than a bowl because more effort is required + neck strain in order to get water out of a bottle than just leaning over and drinking out of a bowl. Have you considered switching the bottle with a water bowl?

My bunny continuously uses his water bottle to wet the space just above his nose/between his eyes. He takes a few sips and then runs that spot of his face over the spout. He does this over and over, and so often that it is starting to make his head stink a little! I’m always trying my best to dry it off! Anyone know why he is doing this?

OK, if that’s the case then I would definitely bring up EC with the vet. Uveitis caused by EC is common in young rabbits and can appear in the absence of other symptoms.

    Hi!

It’s not necessarily floating in his eye but I looked into uveitis as you suggested and it some what looks like that, just not as white. We scheduled an appointment with our vet for this friday. Thank you for your help!! šŸ™‚

It’s hard to see detail in the picture. Is the red spot “floating” inside the eye? An eye injury could cause a subconjunctival hemorrhage (i.e. blood in the eye). Another possibility is uveitis.

I would get it checked out by a vet. If it hasn’t changed for the past 3 weeks, that can be positive, though it can still be indicative of an underlying issue that needs to be treated or it is getting worse but in a way that can’t be perceived yet. Rabbits eyes can definitely get nicked by hay or other things accidentally, so it’s not necessarily…[Read more]

He’s had it for about 3 weeks and we haven’t had him checked by the vet yet because we aren’t sure if it’s serious. I have absolutely no idea what has caused it and when i tried doing research online for the possibilities nothing came up. Yes he’s eating and pooping normally. Thank you for replying!

How long has it been around for, and has it been checked by a vet yet? Do you have any idea what may have caused it? Also, is your rabbit eating/pooping normally?

To my knowledge, really any eye-related ailment really needs to be assessed by a rabbit-experienced vet to figure out the proper treatment and help the rabbit.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. It is extra horrible to lose a pet so abruptly. Its always hard when a pet passes, but the chock of sudden decline and death in a per is traumatising, as Dana says. I lost my bun Bam after just 2 days of illness.

You didn’t let her down when you chose to try and save her. If you hadn’t given her that chance, you…[Read more]

Ahhh thanks for all the nice comments guys! They still kill me with cuteness every single day. Unfortunately Fresno is very mean to Quincy and acts like a completely different bun around her… like almost kind of malicious. It seems a trio bond is completely out of the question much to my dismay.

    Hello!

Yup @DanaNM all my buns have been on a nebuliser at some point or other in their lives.

Peep is on one permanently – he suffered a very bad pseudomonas infection that has left him with chronic nasal discharge ( looks like inflammation of his turbinate)
He is permanently on metacam (oral)Ā  and f10 sterilization fluid (nebuliser)

    I use on…[Read more]

If your other bunny didn’t have respiratory symptoms, I doubt it was related. It can be so hard dealing with chronic conditions, there are so many “what ifs” and unknowns. I don’t have any personal experience with nebulizers, but I know some members have.

Hang in there, as long as she is eating, pooping, and generally behaving normally then I…[Read more]

We are on day 5 of doxycyclin and Charlie had a sneezing fit blowing thick runny mucus out of her nose. She kept sneezing and I was trying to catch the mucus as she sneezed and it came out for her. She seemed better for a couple days. My husband is now saying its just allergies because the vet told us a couple weeks ago when we thought she was…[Read more]
