Well, good news is that Luna’s test results came back pretty good, her kidney value was outside of normal range, but not strongly, everything else looked OK. So, surgery tomorrow. 🙂

My preference is for the silicone/ rubber type brushes, I have one that has a flatter side and a side with chunky points which help brush deeper into the coat. Similar to the Kong Zoom Groom. I find it very effective, the fur does often go flying but it pulls a lot out gently to get all the loose stuff out. I actually use it on the bunnies, cats…[Read more]

If the mat is small and it isn’t pulling the skin, then it isn’t a big deal. I would always just snip it out. If needed, a small personal trimmer (like a beard trimmer) could get one that was close to the skin.

I don’t think there is harm in doing a little preventative trimming. I mean, it’s not like lionhead fur is “natural” anyway.

Hairbuster comb doesn’t work. My bunny hates the sticky roller, wet hand petting, plucking… So we have one of those brush mitts. Does it work perfectly? No. But I can get a decent amount of fur off of him. It will be flying around everywhere, but it will be off him.

my pair love them. to the point we call bananas “bunny heroin”.  no one in the house can eat one without paying bunny tax and give a little to them. so using them in bonding may have a large amount of success.

yes banana can help! only time it’s backfired for me is when the buns get overly excited around food, so I usually wait to try it until they are calm together.

that sounds like a good plan.  maybe I’ll also try putting some banana on one to get the grooming started.

I use hair buster the most but it really depends on fur type as I have a bun it doesn’t really work on.

Don’t forget low level methods like running damp hands through fur.

My young Lionhead has very long fine mane. She’s the first bun to ever get mats in my care – i.e. buns may come in with mats but after I get them cleaned up, it never happens again. This bun though, has had them a few times developing and hiding behind her ears, one on each side. Hay seems to be a huge contributor. I’ve been able to get them out…[Read more]

That’s tough! Maybe an immovable barrier like a piece of plywood would work?

If you haven’t done any car rides with them, those can also be really helpful to get past the fighting stage.

One other thing you can try in bonding sessions, is when they go into these head wars, pet them both and swap scents so they think the other rabbit is grooming…[Read more]

thank you both so much for the info. I really hope given time and rest she will regain her strength. I am glad to know that one week in without much change isn’t necessarily a sigh that it isn’t working. I had wondered if steroids were an option but it sounds like we aren’t really there. She gets around really well considering her situation. Thank…[Read more]

I keep a thick fleece pen liner covering the divider to try and give them a visual barrier they go under to see each other.   The nearest is the SPCA and they are not very open to such ideas.  There is a bunny rescue 4 hours away from me as the closest actual rescue.  But there is a lady who helps that rescue out with bunnies in my area, I hav…[Read more]
