Luna started eating on her own and was declared well enough to come home. I swear I have the best buns, 15 minutes after arriving home Apollo has started grooming her. I always worry about the post-vet fight/chasing but have never had an issue with these two.
Luna’s stitched up eye looks pretty crazy with the shaved off fur etc, one of those…[Read more]

Oh, I’m glad to hear the operation went well! Fingers crossed she’ll start eating soon 🤞

Much to my amazement and immense pleasure, Luna’s surgery went very well. No issues with anesthetic, the eye removed well with the mass fully encapsulated and removed withthe surrounding tissue. She’s in recovery at the moment, I have another call with the vet later to discuss whether she stays in overnight. I know it’s best for her to stay on the…[Read more]

When the mats are very tight and close to the skin, they can actually cause pulling and sores. I seriously doubt you would let your bun get to that point though.

Daily or every other day brush the problem areas to prevent the mats forming.
If that’s not working then definitely running it shaving the fur should help.

About 5 days ago I adopted a 3yr old boy – Noah – from a rescue to bond with my 8 month old girl – Willow. Both spayed/neutered. The rescue advised that due to Noah’s disposition, they could be housed side by side straight away. I am bonding them upstairs as willow usually has the run of downstairs. They have their litter boxes next to each o…[Read more]

What do you mean by pulling the skin? Like as long as there’s no bald spot?
Her fur is very dense, especially the mane, so the clumps are hard to find. Best case clump were about a quarter size when found while the worse case was 2.5 quarter sized in length for each one.
I guess the buns I’ve seen trimmed/shaved just look so funny/strange…

One issue I had once was both buns could smell the banana so they were sniffing around so much that the one I wanted to get groomed wouldn’t sit still long enough for the other bun to groom them. So I smeared a little banana on the ground first for that bun to lick and then put the banana on her head for the other bun. 🙂

That’s great! That isn’t ideal that one female is being left out though. I would monitor the situation closely. It could get better with time. But if you notice things getting worse then you may need to keep working with them to try to get her more integrated, or separate her if they start acting aggressive towards here. You could go pair her with…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Bonding two female rabbits – no progress or a stalemate in the forum BONDING 2 years ago
It can be really hard to tell who is dominant sometimes! I think honestly sometimes they both think they are 😆
Does it seem like Cinnabun’s grooming precedes a mounting attempt? That happens a lot. Or does Cinnabun then ask for grooms that are not given, leading to a chase?
I usually try not to worry too much about who will be dominant…[Read more]

Thank you for responding to my thread. I think you are right! So I did keep them adjacent in an exercise pen with a bit of an area to roam around for both. They are doing okay now.
I am also wondering to figure out who is the dominant one.
Cinnabun is always the one who is grooming Leo but she is ask also the one chasing Leo. I have seen Leo…[Read more]

UPDATE: thank you everyone for your input! It turned out that the F/F pair rebonded almost immediately after recovering from their spay. Since I saw such good progress with them, I decided to bond the quad all together (after giving the two girls a short respite from bonding) so that each pair could rely on each other through the next phase. It…[Read more]

Well, good news is that Luna’s test results came back pretty good, her kidney value was outside of normal range, but not strongly, everything else looked OK. So, surgery tomorrow. 🙂
