Hi, I have a 6 week old bunny name Oliver who loves to run around and get hyper. But i have recently noticed whenever he does get his zummies, he tends to shake his head and scratch his ears. It’s not uncommon for a rabbit bacterial cold to require a longer course of antibiitics. If you havent seen any improvement at all in 2 weeks, it could be that the antibiotic you got is not the right kind for the type of bacteria that are making him ill.

My little Peanut has been sneezing and wheezing recently even after 14 days of antibiotics. He doesn’t have any mucus, but i don’t want him to suffer with breathing. What should I do? 😥

Depending on the bun, sometimes they do really light sedation, but sometimes they don’t need to do it at all. Bun Jovi had one a couple months ago and it was a very quick process!

The SD HRS often has megacolon buns that they place in permanent foster care (“sanctuary” foster), so the society will cover all the medical expenses etc. It seems like they usually they do pretty well with a motility med twice a day and some diet modifications.

That’s comforting to hear. After posting that and thinking about it some more I actually wouldn’t even turn down a Charlie pattern bun with megacolon symptoms – they need good homes too, especially ones that are aware of the complications and what is currently best known to avoid them, such as leaving greens out. I am so, so sorry for your loss! You can just tell in the pictures how happy Cookie was. You did everything for her and I know she appreciated it. Remember that she’s looking down on you and she’s your biggest supporter.

Thanks for sharing Dana, I love that article, unfortunately she’s going to take a bit more work. I’ve offered the CC in a bowl, and I did also try offering it straight from the syringe without touching her at all. Will just need practice with something really tasty.

LBJ10 – Yes, getting an x-ray done seems like the most sense. I’m a bit nervous, but at least I’ll know how to properly care for her during recovery. Will they have to sedate her during the x-ray?
