Hazel- Ouch! That sounds like a tough situation. 🙁 I’ve never really had this exact problem, but I have had neighbors feed stray cats near me. When this happened, I didn’t really have any cats cross my propriety. This might have been because at the time I had three very territorial cats to keep them out. lol. But, I have had issues with my own…[Read more]

Hmm, it sounds like something has affected their bond then, because aggressive fur pulling isn’t normal in a bonded pair.
How long have they been bonded, and what did you do to bond them? Health issues in one bun can also cause issues sometimes.

How long have you been feeding just 2 tablespoons of pellets?
Young bunnies should usually have more (some people say unlimited up to a year old, but usually that’s a bit excessive), so if he’s been on that ration for a while then he might not be getting enough calories.

Some pests like aphids can be dealt with with a few drops of dishwashing soap, a tablespoon or so of rubbing alcohol, plus a drop of vegetable oil in a liter of water. Use a spray bottle. For funghi, baking soda in water can have some effect. Slugs you pretty much have to remove manually.
I grow practically all greens and herbs in pallet collars,…[Read more]

Hazel – Do you have a feral cat organization in your area? There is one here and they have a neuter/spay and release program. It has really helped with the population issue. You could also try calling animal control and have them tell the neighbors not the feed the stray cats. Feeding stray cats causes a public health issue. For your own yard……[Read more]

I am looking for a general all-around bunny-safe pest control option(s) to use throughout my garden, the cilantro and dill are still growing my greenhouse, I haven’t transplanted them just yet.
I do not want to risk any type of chemical cross-contamination in my garden, and I have stuff online, but I can’t be 100% sure the techniques are bunny…[Read more]

Can you use cat litter? A lot of people have good luck with compressed paper (e.g. Yesterday’s News) or pine (e.g. Feline Pine) pellet litter. It’s sold as cat litter, so something similar may be easier to find. Just don’t use clay or clumping cat litter. It should be compressed paper or pine pellets.

Has RHDV been detected in Georgia? I thought that was pretty far away from the outbreak areas, which are mostly in the west.
What’s eating your cilantro and dill? Aphids? If it’s aphids, then you could buy some ladybugs or lacewings to eat them.

I found a bunny last summer that some had put out and she was near death and I ended up spending over 3k on her surgeries and medical care and she has fully recovered and is a joy to have in my life…
I usually have a huge garden that I start in the early spring and would use Seven Dust on my plants for the occasional outbreak of pests, but I…[Read more]

That’s such an awesome thing for the shelter to do. I would definitely take part in that if I wasn’t on the opposite side of the country! Hopefully more shelters follow suit to help get these sweet special needs babies into attentive homes. I know the medical bills can be daunting.
Yeah I of course can’t say for sure that my boy had megacolon.…[Read more]

Hazel replied to the topic Travelling cross country with a rabbit? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 4 months ago
Just one thing I wanted to point out, do not withhold food or water before travelling. I know it’s recommended for cats and dogs in case they get queasy, but rabbits actually can’t vomit. They might be too stressed to eat much during travel so it’s important to keep them eating and drinking beforehand to make sure they don’t slip into stasis.

I agree, happy chicken noises are so nice to listen to.
I know I’ve complained about this before, but things are getting out of control. Two of my neighbors (next door and across the street) feed stray cats. They have a whole colony going at this point, around 10 cats. None of them fixed. Just yesterday I noticed one of them has dropped a new…[Read more]
