Thank you for the update Azerane! I’m glad to hear Luna is improving.

Weight loss with molt is normal as buns need more energy to grow the fur back. She is also a strict hay eater, because she’s a weirdo, which would also cause more loss. I just don’t know how much is acceptable.

The vet didn’t ask me to go in so I guess at least it’s not an emergency.

Unfortunately the boots have come with their own set of problems in that they’re irritating his skin where they strap around his legs. His fur is falling out in these spots and creating sores on the legs. I know they’re not too tight either. I am at my wits end on how to help this guy. 😭

LOL poor Apollo and poor you! Myra is also a fur breed and has one molt a year where she just looks horrendous! Mine are all starting to go now as well, I feel your pain!

I replied in your other thread, please absolutely keep them separated. If they are getting into each other’s areas you need to modify the area or move one into another room. The timing of sexual maturity is not exact and isn’t worth the risk.

Right now they are only interested in mating, this isn’t bonding.

Well it was interesting to have them together in one of their territories last night for sure. I think it went so well, but I felt so bad for Pancake being in pain. Has this ever happened to your rabbit before? If so, how did you treat her? How much did she pee/poo, was it more, or less then usual? When was your last trip to your vet? If it was recently, did the vet inject your rabbit with something or did they give her a certain medicine? Are your rabbits spayed/neutured yet?

I agree they aren’t ready to move into any space that isn’t neutral. I would try doing a larger space that is neutral first. Litter boxes and hides can also cause disputes, so keep it bare bones for now. They didn’t fight because they are un-castrated and were more concerned with mating. At 8 weeks she is probably not able to get pregnant yet, so that’s good, you hopefully won’t end up with an oops-litter. Rabbits can mate in a flash, even through cage bars. That’s a tough call. On one hand you don’t want to stress them too much, but on the other they may need some encouragement. You can always try to take out the boxes for a bit and try and put them together and pet them for a while to help. If they act stressed after a while give the hides back?

I hope they will approve it! I too have seen great results with rapid treating with meloxicam at the first signs of trouble. I agree with Azerane, weight loss with shedding is unusual so I think a visit to the vet is in order.

Please keep them separated. Baby bonds are not true bonds and at any point they could start to fight, not to mention that rabbits can get pregnant very early, I think 8-10 weeks, so they need to be kept apart for her health. Even when your boy is neutered, he can still get her pregnant up to six weeks after the surgery.

Bald spots can happen during shedding, sometimes from over grooming. But it is very normal to see those short patches of fur revealed as the other fur is brushed out.

The weight loss is unusual, my rabbits don’t lose weight when they shed,  especially not 16% of their bodyweight. I’d be getting her checked out by a bun savvy vet. I had the same…[Read more]
